I was thinking about this as my surgery should be happening in the next month or 2. Is it ok to keep dying my hair. I color my hair once every 4 to 6 weeks. I don't loose much hair during the process, but I lose a lot of hair naturally. I have think hevey hair. What do you guys think? Should I keep doing it or dye it my normal color before surgery? Thanks any input would be great.

It's absolutely ok to dye your hair - good grief I haven't seen my natural hair colour in 34 years - I actually lost very little hair after surgery and I do think that having my hair look good all the time definitely makes me feel better ...

Dye away ...    If you start to lose A LOT of hair, go and see a good stylist for style help, but dyeing will make no difference whatsoever, other than make you look and feel better!

i just colored my hair back to the normal color...im planning on leaving it alone for a couple of months. But i guess it doesn't really matter cause if you r going to lose hair its going to happen in 3 to 4 months.  But im trying to keep it healthy so if that does come i have good hair to work with

Nope, no problems. Even if you lose hair, your hair won't be unhealthy suddenly. Unless you're eating nothing but carbs and chewing Flintstones vitamins.

Thank, I didn't know if it would cause a problem. Even my customers make jokes when they see the naturally hair coloring coming back in. They said"well looks like it's time for a new color" I love them guys lol

My hair stylist suggests no hair dye 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after anesthesia. It's not a rule but it's just a suggestion from her. I know before I had plastic surgery the surgery center suggested no hair dye for 4 weeks before but didn't say anything about after. It's something about how your body reacts to anesthesia. I forget why.

I followed those guidelines BUT I know many people who haven't done anything like that and have been just fine. I think it's not something you should worry about unless someone like your hairdresser or surgeon actually suggests it.

My nutritionist said that its a good idea to color your hair right before surgery and try and hold off as long as you can afterwards. She said it might make the hair falling out worse, so if you could wait a few months you'd be better off. I'm not sure if I buy into what she said, and she has already steered me wrong with vitamin suggestions, so who knows if this is correct either.

I have very fine thin hair.  I usually  highlight my hair but haven't done so since surgery for fear that more will fall out.  I'm waiting until it stops falling out.  I have been thinking about putting a color on my hair rather than doing a process that involves bleaching.

I have very fine, thin hair. I have my hair colored & highlighted on a regular basis and don't have any problems.

I stopped highlighting my hair until today...approximately 8 months post-op.  My hair didn't look as healthy for many months afterwards...probably the lack of healthy fats in my diet for the first several months.  I also lost a ton of hair from 3 to 6 months.  It has started growing back and looks healthier now, but I would say that it is still not as healthy as it was before surgery.
I think the point is that you can't predict in advance if you will be one of the lucky ones with your hair, so I would die it back to your natural colour, just in case.
