OT: Aaargh. Missed call from Chow breeder!
I went to a workshop yesterday morning and had to put my phone on vibrate. I forgot to take it off of vibrate and missed a call 20 minutes ago from the Chow breeder! They are probably just calling to respond to my emails (rather than sending me another email that I can save as "evidence", as I have their other ones (and they know that I have done so because i have forwarded some back to them when reminding them what they told me)). It seems too much to even hope that they have a puppy to offer me... but still... I need to understand what's going on.
Hopefully they will try again tomorrow.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

I don't know the full story about this but I strongly urge you to at least consult with an attorney. If they are supposed to replace your other puppy and are giving you a run around you need to take some action before some sort of Statue of Limitations expires. I'd hate to see you further hurt by this. Please check into it and get all your rights and their obligations so you know what you are up against!!!!
I will if I don't get a response from them by Monday (or the response is unsatisfactory).
My mom used an attorney two years ago to write a threatening letter to her homeowner's association (she bought a house and got a copy of the bylaws before she bought it to be sure that she could install a fence -- since she has a dog and both my brother and I had multiple dogs and we periodically have all 5 dogs there -- and then they tried to reject her request for a fence (bylaws said you just had to get architectural approval on the fence) saying that the neighbors didn't like fences and that the yard wasnt big enough to "require" a fence (what does that mean?!? it isn't the YARD that requires a fence, it's the DOGS that require a fence!!!) and suggesting that she just install an "invisible fence". His letter was AWESOME. It was tough and wonderfully slightly sarcastic about the ridiculousness of each of their reasons for denying the fence application (and threatened to sue the homeowner's association to recoup the cost of the house and her moving expenses if they did not follow the bylaws and approve a fence of some kind). My mom had not sold her other house, so she could have just moved back into it (it had a fence). They agreed to meet with the fence company two days after he sent the letter, LOL. So I know exactly who I will call if I need a letter sent!! I honestly don't THINK it will come to that, but if it does...

It was almost 10pm here by the time I noticed that they called a bit after 9, so I did not want to call that late. Hopefully they will call tomorrow since they notified the other woman of her puppy last Sunday (so they do make business calls on Sunday).

There aren't any other reputable breeders in this area, plus I would have to pay $1000-$2000 for a puppy from someone else (whereas the replacement puppy from them is free under their health guarantee on Khan). Their dogs also really have excellent temperaments (and temperament can be a problem in Chow Chows that are bred carelessly or by backyard breeders). We had Chows when I was growing up, and none of them -- not even one that was mostly blind and much more reliant on people -- was anywhere nearly as affectionate as most of their progeny are. All you had to do to get a full mintue's worth of kisses from Khan at any time was put your face within 6 inches of his!
I will contact an attorney if I have to, and will provide him with all of the emails that I have, but right now I just need to hear from them and find out what their response is to being made aware that *I* am aware that they promised a puppy to someone who has NOT been waiting "a long time".
