Random Poll o' the Week: Down in the dumps...
RNY on 08/14/12
So far, I don't think I dump, which is slightly disappointing. I was out during one of my mealtimes, and couldn't get home. I went to Starbucks and ordered a Ham and Cheddar breakfast sandwich. I wasn't thinking about the bread being a ciabatta roll, so I was surprised when I opened the sandwich. Anyway, I ate half of it. Nothing. I waited a few hours and had the other half. Nothing. When I got a chance, I looked up the nutritional info, and for the most part, it was OK. The sandwich as a whole has 32g of carbs. I'll just have to remember for next time to pay more attention.
bread will get stuck for some people - but most people would not dump on carbs in bread.
Some may get RH - reactive hypoglycemia 1-2 hrs after eating the bread.
Just because you did not get a reaction to the carbs in bread - it does not mean that you are and are not a dumper.

Most people are FAR less likely to dump on carbs that are not from processed sugar, so just because that sandwich didn't bother you means nothing in terms of whether you dum*****t.
I do dump, but only on processed sugar. No amount of other kinds of carbs causes me a problem.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I don't know, but I think not. I have been pretty careful with the amounts of sugars in foods, so I cannot say with 100% certainty. I will own up to eating a bite of chocolate chip cookie dough with no adverse reaction, which is why I say probably not.
I do eat full fat cheese sometimes, and it hasn't caused me any troubles.
I act on the premise that I WILL dump, so the thought alone helps me behave. I usually don't want to stray off the path, but occasionally I have/do, ie, the chocolate chip cookie dough--and I don't even like chocolate chip cookies, just the dough!

I guess I feel like embarrassing myself today
I was nearly a year post op, like 11+ months. We went to Orlando in November to do some Christmas shopping. We went to coffee shop and I got my usual cup with cream. Hubby got a bagel with cream cheese. I nibbled a few tiny bites.....certainly not more than 1/4 of that bagel (half of a half). We got back into the car to hit the stores and I knew something was wrong. It hurt, I felt woozy, the outdoors was spinning.
I threw up. As in projectile, active expulsion. He nearly drove off the road because I was screaming between eruptions. I couldn't stop it, I couldn't get anything in front of me.
Clean up when you are traveling is such a joy.
Yea, I dump. At almost seven years, I still do. Combinations are my problem. Too much fat and richness.................... the classic queasy, sweaty, pain, wishing to die, longest thirty minutes of your life moments. The other bad one for me is cereal and cow's milk. I have recently learned I can handle unsweetened Almond milk in small doses on cereal. It is nice to have that small treat on occasion.
I never push the envelope on sweets since I am diabetic so that is not my dumping zone.

I found out when my husband gave me a chocolate at the movies, thinking it was sugar free and it wasn't. I has halfway thru it ( it was a pb cup from sees) when I felt sick. I asked him, your sure they're sugar free?! He said no, but I thought you liked that kind. I did, but I couldn't have them anymore. Needless to say, we had a serious conversation after about what I could eat and could no longer eat. It was the worst feeling ever. Felt like my heart was ginna jump outta my chest!

Sugar Alcohols do it to me.....bad stomach ache for about 30 mins.....I have not tested sugar.....don't want to.
Fats seem to be ok for me - I do eat full fat cheese....but mostly everything else is low fat - I don't do non-fat as it tastes icky to me and always seems to have more carbs or sugar to make up for the loss of fat flavor.
