Pre-Op Diet questions
I am having surgery on the 17th, so next monday. My doctors office has me on a 2 week pre-op diet that is 3-4 shakes of Bariatric Fusion a day, and thats it.
I currently feel like im cheating, I am doing 2 shakes a day and 1 hard boiled egg for snack, then 1/2 cup of pre cooked grilled chicken tenders. I was doing the 4 shakes a day for the first few days, but then yesterday and today i cheated.
I feel like im gagging down the shakes. Today i made it with lukewarm water and it was a little easier but still gagging. I know this part is hard, but is there anything else i can do to get the shakes in with out it tasting so bad?

I find them pretty sweet, so I don't add extra SF syrups to them. I do like adding coffee (decaf of course) to my French Vanilla shake instead of water. Since my coffee maker broke a couple of months ago, I started using dried coffee granules in with the shake, and using milk as the liquid.
I've also added some PB2 to the French Vanilla to make a peanut butter flavor. You could also add the PB2 to the chocolate mousse flavor, but I find I like the Unjury Chocolate Classic better. I use the Orange Cremé flavor with ricotta if I want something with an almost cheesecake-like flavor. I used the Unflavored in cold tomato soup--it doesn't work too well in warmer stuff like Unjury. I tried making a warm latte with it, and it doesn't work well with milk added. In that case, you have to use cold water to mix up the protein powder, then warm up--no hotter than 130-140 degrees F. Otherwise, you'll have a solid protein chunk--gross! I'd err on the lower end, IMO.
Hope those help! Can you have SF jello, SF Popsicles or broth in between?

Honestly all the paper work says just the shakes, i had to buy from the surgeons office. which is funny because the pre op paperwork says i can have clear liquids only on the day before, but it list things on there that i have been told not to have. It really is confusing to me. I found that i can drink the Slim fast, low carb protein shakes fine. So I guess i will be doing those half of the time.
try doctoring them up. i always blend shakes with ice and the taste better to me that way.

Cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla are nice additions to any flavor base. I just started adding a tsp of dark cocoa powder and a couple shakes of cinnamon to my Click protein coffee. Made a huge difference in the taste. It's a hard business, that liquid diet stuff.. Hope you keep on keeping on! You might call and ask if you can try other brands of shakes.. The Dr is getting paid to have you use that brand, maybe the office could suggest an alternative. Just don't go out and buy a bunch of stuff because the things you like today, you may HATE after your surgery. Good luck :)
