OT - You ever have something start out being funny but then...

 It really bums you out?

This isn't anyone's fault. I think it's just an indicator of the level of stress I live with on a day to day basis but today I made a discovery. When I got my dog the girls picked it out and we took it home and named it Nana and I'd been so busy shuffling every one here there and everywhere that I just was sort of going through the motions like a machine. Well today, one week after picking up the dog I'm in the back yard watching her dig around and play and..."she" has boy parts. My dog is a boy. And I am just now noticing this.

And it was funny at first. I even posted it on FB. Even now academically I know it's a funny thing to go around calling your dog a girl when it's a boy.

But as it sunk in, it began to feel like yet another place in my life where I was not paying attention or was inadequate. That sounds crazy, I know, but that's the way it feels. Like "you damn dummy, you don't even know the gender of your own dog."

Anyway, I know this is all very mental but I had to let it out into the universe. I think as my mom's birthday gets closer I'm going to have more random moments of completely inexplicable feelings. I'll try to be judicious about my whining.

Thanks for listening.

Nik,  My mom died 18 years ago in a car accident on my 25th birthday.  There are still hard times even after all these years.  Don't be hard on yourself it is okay.....I was told once by a minister to "feel what I am feeling in that moment and then try to let it go"  He had a point.  Don't make apologies for your emotions whatever they are. Honor them and then let them go.  So bring on the whinning if that is what you need to be doing.
PS the dog does not care that you did not know it was a boy...he cares that you treat him well and love him which I am sure you did not forget to do....everything will be okay

Thanks. I know it's not about the dog. But it was just this moment where - WHAMMO! - a feeling hit me from the left. Usually I can feel it coming on.

It was always the wierd little things that got to me too.  Once I started crying at a stop sign for no reason!!  I broke all the plates in my house because it seemed like every time I had one in my hand I would get this overwhelming feeling of anger and I would end up throwing what I was holding.  Spring time the first year was awful because ever time I saw an "f"ing forsythia bush I would get tears in my eyes (her favorite flowering bush)  THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!!!!

At least it only took you a week to figure it out, right?

Last week I dated a check with the year 1999! Seriously, I lost 13 years!!!! When we are busy and stressed, sometimes our brain just doesn't work right.

For about 4 years my mom had a cat named Major Milo. Very sweet cat, kinda high pitched meow, but very shy. One vet visit, the vet said to her, "you know your cat isn't a male, right?". "But the shelter named him Major Milo" she said. The vet said in response "Well, this cat has no penis!". So now this sweet cat is called Mimi.

I've had two days in a row like this.  Yesterday I overslept and made the kids late for school...it was only the 5th day of school!!!  So of course that set the mood for the rest of the day and everything I touched turned to poop.  Today, I backed into a parked truck in the parking lot and dented my car in and broke the tail light.  PARKED!!!  It is not the first time I've done this....in a parking lot....to a Chevy Silverado.  Makes me feel like a real dummy. You're not alone!

Aww, don't feel too bad. My Dad once brought home a cat that was hanging around the garage he worked at. Thought it was a boy. Until HE had kittens a week later! Oops! Good thing we lived on a farm.

But I do get how sometimes that little, inconsequential thing can just be the icing on the cake sometimes. Hang in there!

My ex used to be a general manager at a hotel.  One time he hired a new housekeeper.  On the housekeeper's first day of work, after she'd been there a while, the head housekeeper took him aside and explained that the new housekeeper was having a hard time doing some of the tasks she had to do, like making beds.  He asked what the problem was.  The head housekeeper explained, "Well, since she only has one arm, it takes her a really long time to make a bed."  Somehow he had not noticed, when he interviewed her, that she only had one arm.

They ended up transferring her to the front desk, where she had an easier time performing all the job duties.

Sounds like your Nana could be a Nono...(how about Uhoh?) Most animals could care less what we call them fortunately. It IS still a funny story you could get a lot of mileage from!!
