Hi, My surgery date is 9/10 and I just got a phone call from my Dr. saying he is going to have to take out my gallbladder because it is Diseased.  He said it is better to do it now instead of waiting for me to have problems.  Has anyone else had this done? I'm freaking out now.  Any help would be very much appreciated!

I had my gallbladder out in May. It's a simple, common procedure. If there's a problem, I'd listen to your doc.

Good luck.

My dr took out my gallbladder when he did my RNY.  Nothing was wrong with it but most people develop problems with it after RNY so he normally just takes out so another surgery isn't needed.  I don't think there is a need to freak out.

I ASKED for them to take mine out...I think the stats are something like 30 or 40% of people after surgery need to have their gallbladder out.... with stats that high I say go ahead and take it....

I would rather get it all over with in one surgery then have to live with pain after and have a second surgery...

You will be just fine.

Yes, get it done at the same time.  It's no big deal at all.  I promise!  It's better to be opened up and go under ONCE, than twice...  :)    You'll be fine

Mine was removed at the same time as my RNY also, it was getting sluggish and I had one gall stone. I didn't feel it was a big deal to have it removed at the same time as the RNY in fact I was actually grateful they did it at the same time saved me from another surgery.

It will hurt. It will take time. It will require dedication. It will require willpower. It requires sacrifice. There will be temptation. But, I promise you, when you reach your goal, it's WORTH IT! (Author Unknown). I feel this sums up my ongoing journey to a healthier me!

Thank you all so much.  I heard this and I went online to research it and everyones talking about how painful it is.  And the recovery is so long.  I should know better then to look at random websites and just come here first.  I'm so excited to get this done but so nervous too.  Thanks again!

If you gallbladder has a problem, it's far easier to take it out with your wt loss surgery.  What upsets most, is when they have gallbladder issues a month or two post op, and then have to return for that surgery.  Gallbladder surgery is typically done LAP too, leaving only a small scar.  Don't freak out, it's better to have found the issue now, instead of having pain or diseased gallbladder issues post op, ending up in surgery again.  I wish mine would have been removed at the time of my surgery..instead I had a separate surgery 4 months later that cost me an additional 3k.

I got the same phone call. Mine was taken out the same time as my RNY. No problems and no complications afterwards.
