2 oz measured out, along with 1/4 cup veggies, 20 minutes to eat. I dont recall any instruction on when to stop. I just go with what my body tells me, if it dont like it, it dont like it!

I was never given amount guidelines beyond the suggested 2 ounces very early out... just protein goals and instructions to eat slowly and be on the lookout for signs of fullness.  Therefore, I have never measured anything... I just eat until full or have eaten enough to get my protein in, whichever comes first.

Same here.  I'm 18 mo out and feel like I still have very good restriction.   I usually heat up about 4-5  ounces   protein for my meal and often caneat about half depending on what it is.   I eat to the feeling of a very slight pressure per my surgeon, never had pain from overeating, nor have I ever thrown up.  Some days I'm just not as hungry as others so I save whatever is left over for another meal or snack, but I don't let myself graze on it, it has to be a scheduled eat.    Near the end of the day if i am short on protein I have a shake.

I pretty much just portion or weigh everything out...keeps me honest since I hardly ever get that full feeling like I use to.  Once in awhile I do, but not often.  Sometimes I get the hiccups as an indicator.  I still get head hunger that I try to ignore.

It's who you THINK your NOT!

My doctor never had me measure. I am 2 months out. I eat until full, then save the rest for later. I would never try to keep eating when there is more room. That would just lead to more weigh gain.

At almost ten months out I still measure. Not that it matters because I can never finish a meal. I have a pretty significant restriction I suspect and although I don't feel hunger I KNOW when one more bite will do me in. What a crappy feeling! I try not to go there but it is a conflict because I know I need the protein and calories. ANNNNDDD eating it all? Isn't that what got me here in the first place?

I don't think I knew what "stop when you're full" meant until the surgery.  For the first time the other night I measured out my 1/4 cup of ricotta cheese, baked it and started eating.  I had 2 or 3 bites left and just knew I couldn't take another bite.  I was done but not stuffed.  It was an all new feeling.

Had my 3 month post-op appointment yesterday. Nut said I could eat as much as 4 oz (1/2 cup) if I felt up to it, but no more. I had been following a rule of thumb over the last month that if on big pouch days I didn't feel full, I would measure out an additional ounce. On small pouch days I stayed with 2 oz. Nut did not redirect me not to continue this practice. As portion control was something I struggled with pre-op, I prefer to measure versus using the "full feeling" rule of thumb.

With that said, eating out is much more challenging. I tend to under-eat when dining out because I'm scared of eating too much and getting sick. The first inkling of being full and I put on the breaks.

Every doc seems to have a different protocol.  I think all have value and logic behind them as guidelines, but learning how to live with your pouch is something that is very individualized.  We all have to work at using and perfecting our tool (RNY).
