Question for newer folks or those with a good amount of restriction
Do you determine you’ve had enough to eat by:
a)Your sense of satisfaction or fullness or
b) By how much of something you think you are supposed to eat?
I do both of these actually. If I prepare a certain amount of food (what I think I can eat) I'll either eat it or stop when I'm satisfied usually. Not perfect but I dread the feeling of being too full.
For instance, if your surgeon told you your meals are supposed to be…say…15g protein and about ¼ c. (just random measurements) and you make a meal that fits with that but you take two bites and are full, do you:
a) Save the rest for another meal
b) Wait a little while and resume your meal until full again, repeat until finished meal
Early out I measured EVERYTHING according to my surgeon's food plan.
I don't wait a little while and resume, if I can't eat what I've prepared within 20 minutes I throw it away or put it up until later.

I tend to throw away what I dont finish. Once I'm done, I have found that I am really DONE for a few hours at least.
In the beginning I measured per my surgeon. I was never able to eat everything I measured out though... so "restriction" was high in my case I guess.

Highest weight: 340
Surgery weight: 313
Surgery date: 10/24/11
Current weight 170... 170 pounds lost!!!!
I am not a doctor, but I play one at work.
So my common sense tells me to eat my protein And stop when im full. I dont even bother putting anything else on my plate I'm almost 5 mos out and basically still just eating protein unless I really feel my body begging for fruits and vegetables which it does from time to time.
Type of surgery: RNY ( 4/4/2012)
I was also given a 20 minute time limit and NEVER go back to it ...
Lastly, if I wasn't hungry, or didn't feel like eating, not to force myself to eat.
I still live (pretty much) by these rules and they seem to work for me. If I don't follow them, I KNOW that I will vomit so that's definitely a reinforcer! I know I eat maybe slightly less than someone who has always been normal weight, but not enough to cause comment if someone doesn't know I've had WLS.

I'm surprised how much some earlier post ops can eat. Not sure if surgeons are making pouches larger or if it's a time factor that allows more intake.

I know I got very little "education" in comparison to what is touted now but I seemed to get exactly what I needed and the information was GOOD! Learning this stuff myself, rather than accepting information blindly really seemed to give me good motivation - but I get that some people want their professionals to do all the thinking for them, because that would seem to make sense on the surface!
Oh well, now I sound like I'm talking about the good old days - better stop, I've got a reputation to uphold LOL!

unable to measure, so I eyeball it. I know that can be a "get my arse in trouble" zone, so I try
not to do that often. I don't go by feelings of fullness because I'm thoroughly convinced that
I still don't have an accurate sensation of that yet. Plus, like I said before....eating until full is
what got me in trouble to begin with.
Also, if I find I can't eat it all at one sitting I try to wait a little while and come back to it. The
microwave isn't much of a friend to me these days.
