Birthday dinner barfing

Yep, for only the third time since my surgery 5 years ago (well, maybe there was one other time that I am forgetting, but you get the idea), I got sick because of something I ate.

We went to Ruth's Chris for my birthday dinner, and the filet and shrimp I had, as well as the other dinner items, were absolutely delicious as usual.  My brother told them it was a 50th birthday dinner celebration, so there was some birthday confetti on the table waiting for us, and after dinner they brought out a dessert sampler plate with "happy birthday" written in chocolate on the plate, and they lit a candle and put it in the center of the small round cheesecake.  There was also some raspberry sorbet and a dark choclate (VERY dark chocolate... yum!) type of brittle with pecans in it.  The plate was very elegant and delicious.  A small bite of the chocolate "brittle" followed by a small bite of the raspberry sorbet was absolutely heavenly!  I shared everything, of course, and tried to be cautious about how much I ate, but I had a second (not quite as small) bite of the dark chocolate brittle and not 2 minutes later I knew it was coming back up.  I excused myself without saying anything and went to the bathroom and promptly barfed all of the dessert back up.

It was probably just as well, since it was probably enough sugar that I would have been dumping on the way home (and, since I was the only sober one, I had to drive the hour and a half home)!  I felt fine once I got it all out of my pouch (and we had waited long enough after dinner that I didn't lose any dinner), so it was MUCH better than dumping on it, but still... I pushed the envelope and pushed it too far.  We had a wonderful time, though., and I got compliments from everyone on my dress.  (Pics will have to wait until I wear it again because my mom took only one picture and it is so blurry that i look like a patterned blob!)

That's a really nice restaurant selection. I hope that spending the joyous occasion with your family and/or friends is what you'll remember most from the evening.
Again, Happy Birthday.

Glad to hear you had a great birthday (minus the barfing, that is) and can't wait to see pictures of your dress.

Oh man. That sucks. But you were able to keep the dinner down. More importantly, happy birthday!

First of all..HAPPY BIRTHDAY LORA!! Welcome to the Fabulous Fifties!

I really enjoyed your posts about your big day. I was happy to read about you shopping for a new dress, and the surprise dinner you were going on. I've never been to Ruth Chris, so I'll have to see if we have one here and try it out. Your cotton candy machine sounds wonderful too, especially if you can use the "sugar free...sugar" in it. Kind of a contradiction isn't it though (sugar free sugar)...LOL! Dinner up to just before the last bite of dessert sounded really wonderful too. Perhaps your pouch was giving you the gift of not dumping which was actually a pretty good thing when looking at the big picture. I'm looking forward to a picture of you in your new dress.

I hope you have a Great Year!

Kat
