Fun but completely inappropriate birthday present for a RNYer

I am kind of in the middle of a series of 50th birthday celebrations with family, friends, coworkers, etc. Today a couple of friends gave me a birthday present that I would have LOVED 5 years ago (and actually was excited about  -- at first -- when I opened it today) but is probably about the most inappropriate gift they could have given someone with a RNY: a small cotton candy machine!

Now, I have always loved cotton candy... and I have been craving it like crazy at baseball games this year and at the zoo... but I have managed to resist it (mostly becasue spending $3.50 in order to have just a few bites seemed wasteful)... and now I have my very own machine with THREE small jars of various flavors of flossing sugar.  I appreciate the thought that went into the gift, especially because they thought that way I would make just a very small amount at a time.  I am just not sure if I will have the willpower to eat just a bit.  I thought about finding someone with kids to give it to... and may still eventually do that... But not until I have used it at least once!

Mostly, it just seems ludicrous to think that good friends gave a RNYer a cotton candy machine!

Had a good laugh at reading this.  I had been feeling tired so a friend brought me a big box of chocolates because she eats chocolate when she feels tired.  Yes, she knows I have RNY but evidently doesn't understand the change in my digestive system. Happy Birthday and ENJOY the celebrations!

That's too funny!

Because he knows I don't eat cake, my boyfriend fashioned a cake, complete with candle, out of dark chocolate squares ... I think he gets it - and me!

Enjoy your birthday celebrations - I'm still waiting to look and feel 50 and I'm sure you are the same!!!!

My birthday was yesterday and I'm only 5  weeks out today.  A friend of mine just dropped by with a gift card to a restaurant that's known for their SUPER SIZE servings.  I think she realized her error when she saw the small quanty of food that I was eating when she dropped by. I told her that I would take my daughter and that I would order from the appetizer menu.  Oh well, I know her heart was in the right place.

Once in a while our church sponsors a movie night.  They show a Pixor or Disney type movie and invites all the families in the neighborhood.  Our church is located in a poor part of town so we sometimes get a pretty good turn out.  We make hot dogs and popcorn.  One young family from our church has a cotton candy machine.  They bring it in and make cotton candy.  It is a huge hit.

So if your church does something like this it could be a fun activity for the kids.  Or a local church, YMCA, boys and girls club may love this for activities.
