How Long after surgery can you have coffee?
RNY on 07/16/12
i was a total caffeine aholic before surgery. also got headaches ALL the time. of course caffeine helped them.
i rarely get headaches now that my body has detoxed from it. something to consider.

I drink between 64 and 96 oz of decaffeinated coffee since post-op. I grind my own beans so the taste is indisguisable to caffeinated. My surgeon's program allows for decaf coffee and tea. My pouch tolerates warm liquids better than cold.
Decaf is not caffeine free - it's just reduced significantly. I have never been dehydrated and work out in the gym 1.5-2 hrs 5 days/wk.

It was allowed on my plan. I am a HEAVY coffee drinker, so I did not touch it for one full year post op. I wanted to fully heal and not worry about ulcers. I did not miss it because my taste buds were so out-of-whack. I'm back to my pre-surgery levels now. I'm sure I need to cut back, but I am totally unaffected by the amount I drink. It only bothers me when I drink too much and have eaten too little...just like pre op.

My plan said six months of decaf. I thought I would DIE!!! No coffee?? Are you kidding me... It turned out that my coffee addiction and complete love... Was one of those weird RNY taste bud victims lol. I couldn't stand the taste of coffee for the longest time. I used to drink it black. I now drink Click hot like coffee... It's ok, but I sure miss my morning cup of joe.
