Newbie...1 Week off of work?

So, I'm actually AMAZED when people say they went back after only a week.  I felt like utter crap and totally not myself. I took off 2 weeks of work and went back the 3rd week to only end up calling out sick the last 2 days of the week.  I was exhausted, dizzy, nauseated to name a few.

My energy level did not come back for about a month. I did notice that every other day I'd come home and be just exhausted and take a nap.  Now 2 month's out I'm doing much better and almost back to normal.

I'd rec commend taking off at LEAST 2 weeks.  Unless you are not in pain, don't have any nausea and have the energy level 1 week is a bit early.  I have a desk job too but just walking around the hospital I work out would get me light headed and dizzy.

Here are some Key things I learned early on - Always carry around protein drink and water and nausea meds.  If you are dizzy drink your protein drink and water - my blood sugar would drop pretty drastic right after surgery.  I also had to take my nausea pills on a regular basis for the first month.

Good luck!

Thank you all again!  I am so amazed to see how well you all are doing, I am so excited (and scared to be honest) to get this done.  Just had another test today, so I'm one more test closer!! Woo Hoo.  I think I will talk to my boss and see how much time I can take.

Thanks again...and keep up the amazing work ladies.  You are such inspiration to all of us who are waiting and trying to join the club!

I was out for a week and then went back with no problems.  My surgery was on a Monday and I returned to work the following Monday.  Granted I do have a "desk job" and was able to move around when I wanted/needed to.  Wish you the best with your surgery.

My surgery was 7/31... I was out a week and went back part time this week. I must admit that Monday and Tuesday were really hard, but I think that making myself go back sooner helped me regain my strength and energy. I feel almost normal again!

I have been asking this to everyone that I know that has had the surgery and people on here and most say "2-3 wks " if no problems and some say,"take what you can"...I will be on short term disability for this. I am on on it now because of Retinal surgery for my left eye. I will be back at work for a week and out for this surgery. That waiting week for pay is the pits and the decrease in pay sucks! But this surgery is for my health! It is what it is. Are they asking you at work? I would never say a week....two at the least. My doc says 2-4 days in hospital (I will have hernia repair, Gall bladder and RNY all at the same time). Good Luck.
