Birthday-surgiversary weight loss goal

My 5-year surgiversary is at the end of the month and my 50th birthday is the day after. I am very pleased (and proud) that I have been maintaining my weight at about 7 pounds over my lowest weight (and 5 pounds over my goal weight) but I decided that -- for a variety of reasons -- I would like to be back at my goal weight for my surgiversary and birthday.  I weighed myself this morning, and that would mean losing 5.5 pounds in about 22 days.   It seems pretty ambitious.  My birthday dinner will be a couple of days before my actual birthday, so I have to account for one day of free eating, and I am having so much trouble with my knee right now that even using my recumbent bike is out of the question (although just 3 days on the Celebrex and Nexium has helped, so hopefully I can get a steroid injection on Monday to help with the inflammation)... but I am going to try, anyway.

I will do what I have done when my weight has crept up to that self-imposed boundary, but I will probably have to be stricter about it.  My usual approach is to gie up my daily treat, increase water and protein, and eliminate most of the non-dairy carbs, but I think I will need to also eliminate some of the dairy carbs this time (since exercise is pretty much out of the question). I may also need to decrease my calories a bit.

So, starting tomorrow I will be watching everything I eat very carefully. Tonight, however, I will be finishing the last half of that scoop of UDF peach ice cream I got Thursday night...

What about some resistence training with exercise bands? They are inexpensive, you don't have to use your knee and they help tone. I think 5.5 pounds in 3 weeks is very reasonable. That's basically 2 pounds per week and is doable for someone who is motivated! Good luck reaching your goal!

I have several sets of hand weights that I use for upper body toning?  I also have some bands, but for some reason I never really got "into" using them.  It would just be nice to get my knee swelling down so I could use the recumbent bike to do something to get my heart rate up and burn some extra calories.

If you Google resistance band workouts for weight loss it will give you lots  of results including some You Tube videos how to's. I truly understand about the knee it makes it difficult to participate in exercise.

I can't recall from your previous posts but are you able to do any water exercises?

I think you've set a very realistic goal and made a great plan. We are all rooting for you!

I did water aerobics for a while a couple of years ago, but quit because it was fine while we where doing a lot of movement (jogging in place, etc., which I couldn't do now because just bending the knee slowly is painful and difficult) but once I lost the weight, I spent the last 20 minutes of the class (when she was having us work on stretching and arm/shoulder exercises, and not moving around nearly as much) literally shivering and teeth chattering because I was so cold in the water.  I had to stand under the hair dryer in the locker room for quite a while to get warmed back up.

Thanks!  I know it doesn't sound like a lot to lose, but both of the times that I have had to get that 5 pound weight "creep" off and continued the decreased carbs and increased protein once I got back down to what I usually weigh, the scale didn't drop any lower (and, without the scale moving for a couple of weeks, I decided I wanted my daily treat back more than I cared about losing those extra 5 pounds to get back to goal!)  so I am not sure that I can even force my body back down to 5 pounds less.

I am going to give it my best non-exercising try, though!
