I find that very interesting, my mother was always obese (she is no longer because she had an RNY 3 years ago), my father is of normal weight, he is extremely athletic, and very health conscious. My up bringing until I was about 14 was extremely healthy, my dad cooked all fresh Lebanese food which is for the most part extremely healthy, I was shoved into every team sport, dance, baton twirling, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, I did everything but I was still always overweight or obese. I went to fat camp and lost 40 pounds. But an extremely healthy upbringing did little to curb my weight gain. Admittedly after age 14 I stopped all sports, stopped eating well and I went from 180 pounds to 290 in 6 years. I think genetics had a lot to do with my weight although developing bad habits on top of bad genetics really sealed my fate until now. It is easy to say that it is all genetics, but I really think a combination of genetics and bad habits is the key to being obese. Thank god there is WLS to help us fool our genes, and to help us learn the right habits. I know with out this I would never be this successful in losing weight.
