I need a distraction. Help me name my future puppy
Ok, so eventually I will be getting a free puppy to replace my precious Khan who had to be euthanized before he was even 2 because of severe hip dysplasia. It has been a crappy week with negative crap from pretty much all directions and I am feeling pretty pessimistic/depressed about the future. I need a fun distraction (other than reading about cats with amusing names leaving half-eaten rpesents for their owners).
My new future puppy does not yet have a name. It should be something either regal or strong/protective sounding (e.g., Khan) or should be something that reflects the rather unique personality of Chows. They are more like cats than dogs (no dead mice, though). They are extremely protective of their family members and will protect them fiercely if necessary. They are rather aloof and not particularly eager to please (if you call them, they will come if THEY want to come to you but NOT because you "suggested" it). They are not especially bright (well, not compared to Scotties who are extremely bright and clever) but some of that is just that they don't care (like one of my favorite quotes: "Just because I don't care doesn't mean that I don't understand" (Homer Simpson)) . So a name that kind of plays on the image of a big, dumb, but lovable and very protective dog would be appropriate. I also like names with Classical (Roman, Greek, etc.) or literary references (My current Scottie's name (Max) notwithstanding, LOL). A name that stems from their Chinese heritage would also be ok (a previous Chow's name was Chu'an).
The current front runners are Augustus (call name would be just Gus) and Caesar.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
That actually would have been one of the front runners (especially because I am also a huge Ohio State fan (mascot's name is Brutus)) , but my next door neighbor's little mix (part Maltese, I think) is named Brutus, so having two of them in adjoining yards would probablty be very confusing!

Here's a neat website where you can look up names under all different categories.

I like Augustus! It reminds me of Gus Gus in Cinderella : )
How about Zeus? I know you cannot wait for your new puppy! I'm terribly sorry about Khan. My dogs are my babies so I know that it is so hard to lose on of them.
Don't get down just keep moving forward! Remember all the happy times you had with Khan and he would want his mom to be happy!

I'll vote for Prince Charming. Strong, protective, always comes to the rescue, lovable and handsome but not too bright, "raised to be charming, not sincere" (bonus points if you know where that quote is from).
