So, I attended the information seminar that my surgeons practice offers to new patients. I didn't really learn anything new, lurking on these threads has given me a ton of information. Right after I went to my first consult with my surgeon where I was informed that while my insurance doesn't require me to lose any weight, my surgeon wants me to be under 300 pounds. Yesterday I weighed in at 321.1! So, the nurse told me that my surgery will be in December and that I have 2 more weigh ins before they will schedule the surgery. So, I basically have 2 months to lose 21 pounds. He put me on a diet of 300 calories for breakfast, then for lunch and dinner lean cuisines, and if I am feeling snacky to eat fresh fruits and vegetables. I am scared that I will not be able to lose the weight. Anyone else have these fears?

I think we all fear that we won't lose weight, but we will.  And you will!  :)  When I went on my first medically supervised diet, I weighed 342 lbs.  My nutritionist told me that she wanted me to lose 10% of my body weight, or 34 lbs.  I did it in two months.  (I was also 24, but that's another story!)  You can lose 21 lbs in the time you have.  Do you need to be under 300 for your next weigh in or just by December?

I don't but I will say this...YOU CAN DO IT... This is how I drop lbs fast... I do a lower cal under 1000 and I keep it to protiens and fruits veggies... Chicken ceaser salad (diet dressing) is a good send.... its more filling you can fill up on the lettuce and chicken and not feel sooo deprived... I will change up the dressing for different tastes when I get board... breakfast hard boiled eggs no toast perhaps a protein shake. lunch some kind of meat fresh cut up veggies and a fruit...

YOU CAN and WILL do this!!

My surgeon put me on a 2 week diet to shrink liver prior to surgery, and I lost 10 lbs. easily in 2 weeks.

Essentially it was high protein, low carb consisting of:

6-8 oz protein per day, 3-4 servings of non-carb vegs (no potatoes, corn, etc.), 2 servings of fruit.

3 high protein, low carb protein drinks.

64 oz. of water or sugar free non-carbonated drinks.

No bread or rice.

Some modification of this diet should allow you to lsoe th 20 lbs. with no problems.

First question, no nurtrition support?  I am just begining to go through the process to have surgery and I had my first meeting with my Dietitian yesterday about what changes I need to start making and an eating plan that she wants me on.  I have to lose 25lbs before they will sign off on the surgery.

She would like me on a 1200 cal per day diet, to work on making 3 healthy changes, and to begin keeping track of what I eat.  I won't be eligible to have surgery until at least January based on the other appointments I need to make.

You will lose the weight, think of it as one of the stepping stones to get where you want to be.

How about I do it with you?  I'm pre-op also and I don't need to loose for my insurance/ dr to approve but I know I will feel better.  I've been thinking I needed to start making changes now so when I do have surgery it won't be such a shock / change in everything I do... keep in touch with me..

ok start now.....

Something isn't adding up for me? Why would you have to lose the 21 pounds in 2 months? That would put you at October (all of August and all of September). December would still be 2 months after that right? Seems to me you have 3-4 months to lose the 21 pounds with 2 weigh ins - not 2 months to lose. Am I seeing this right?

I am confused myself as to wether I have to lose the weight for the two weigh ins or just before the surgery in december. I called the surgeons office because I  wasn't sure. I had so much info tossed at me yesterday that maybe I misunderstood or didn't hear. I was told not to eat over a 1000 calories a day. This is going to be hard for me because I am used to eating 1520 calories a day. I haven't seent he dietician yet, the surgeons office will make that appointment for me. Thanks for all the responses.
