(OT) So upset... just need to vent

Lora,
I do understand, but sort of different about the punishment. I use to think that as long as I was big failure at losing weight (reason to stay obese), everything else in my life would be great. And it was, for the longest time. Then both my sons got Crohn's, the younger one had knee surgery twice (once on each knee) and growth issues, my dog needed ACL surgery, and you know what, my being big didn't save us from life's problems. But me being healthier helped me deal with them. But for years I lived with that superstition even as I tried one diet after another and kept failing, deep down I believed I had to be big to keep the demons away. So we all have these strange thoughts.

I'm going to believe that it was all a misunderstanding and you'll find out tomorrow. I'll be looking forward to hearing good news tomorrow.

Hey Lora,  I know what it's like to lose a beloved pet.  I think alot of us animal lovers know what you have been through and the depth of your loss.  I am guessing the breeder knows your pain as well, and that is what prompted her to make you the promise about the "next red male."

My parents went through something similar with a breeder in Florida.  My mother would send emails and not receive a prompt reply, and then the answers she received were sort of disjointed and a little "off."  I couldn't help my Mother get through the frustration, so I became more and more frustrated.  I kept reminding my parents that the dog breeding was something these people were doing in addition to completely different full time jobs.  On top of their work schedules, they spent every weekend showing dogs all over the state of Florida and every extra hour at home caring for the dogs and maintaining their breeding facility.

These people weren't expert marketers, or wonderful communicators.  I begged my Mom to give them a chance, the breeders were not going to get any better at communication and that once the puppies were born and the final d$1500  payment was due she would hear from them.  She refused to listen to me and peppered the woman with daily emails and she called the woman at her workplace and probably made a horrible nuisance of herself.

I hope you get an appropriate answer soon, and that you get what you want.  If it doesn't work out, take a deep breath....OK, take a hundred deep breaths and hope that the next litter you find will be the one.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for you, it all turned out well for my parents, they have a wonderful companion who is smarter than the both of them put together and will help keep their minds active for years to come.

With Warmest Aloha,

Sara in Maui

I was going to wait and post tomorrow when (hopefully) I will have mnore info, but since you asked (thanks!)...

Well, she forgot that I was coming and was not there!  Her adult son was there, though, and she called his cell phone and asked him to let me in to see the puppies.  When I got home, I sent her another email asking very clearly whether I am, or am not, the first person in line for a red male puppy.  I did tell her that I was hoping that she had me confused with someone else (that I am sure she gets lots of email inquiries about puppies) or was rushed and not thinking about my speical cir****tance when she sent the other message. Hopefully she will respond tomorrow.

I got to see the one litter of 4 or 5 week olds that she had in the nursery (three cinnamon ones and a really fat, roly-poly cream male who was adorable and very affectionate... I really wanted to bring him home with me (but she rarely has a puppy without someone on the waiting list for it!).  Oh, how I love puppy breath!   I was also able to see the red female whose litter is due next and the cream female that they think has a false pregnancy (so at least I know the breeder has been honest with me about what litters they have and have not had born, and thatbthere have not yet been any red ones).  I was also able to see that the black female (who was expected to deliver after the red female) had 5 brand new puppies (3 black and 2 cream... no reds).  Her son said that he fed the dogs in the maternity ward this morning and she was still pregnant, so these puppies were just born today!  They were SO tiny compared to the aduly dogs! (Her son assured me that they are the normal size for newborns.)

I'll let you know when I get a response from her.
