Confessions anyone?

Has anyone had someone come up to them and say, I really didn't think you'd be able to do it?

I did, and not from who I expected!

This past weekend it was our ten year anniversary, so my hubby took me out to dinner. While we where talking at the restaurant (Elephant bar) he said, "Can i confess something to you? You know... When you first started this journey, I thought to myself, she's taking the easy way out. I really didn't think you could do it. But you have completely proved me wrong! I'm very proud of you babe!"

I finally asked him, "So, do you still think its the easy way out?"

He responded, "No way! I can see its a lot of work! I could never do what your doing."

So, he didn't think I could do it, but he never let on. He was always very supportive, and still is, but I was kinda surprised to hear him say that

So he thought you took the easy way out, yet still didn't think you could do it?  Seems like an oxymoron :/  People just really don't get what this journey is all about.

Now I am wondering what my husband REALLY thought!  LOL  He has been really great and very supportive, very positive as well.  He changed quite a bit once I started looking into the surgery and then all the appointments and then finally the surgery.  I will have to ask him if he has any confessions!  LOL

I did not have anyone actually say it to me, but I did have someone say it to someone else ABOUT me.

I also had someone whom I had not seen since before I had surgery (and who only heard through the grapevine that I had surgery) say that she thought I would be skinnier and have smaller boobs (yes, I had reached my goal weight at the time of the comment).  Fortunately, neither of those people plays a significant role in my life and I can easily ignore their existence.

Happy Anniversary!!
I haven't had anyone tell me I took the easy way out, but when talking with certain people that I thought would respond to me that way, I tell them it's been hard work before they get a chance to say anything.

You may very well be reading a similar post from me this time next year.
My boyfriend/fiance is very fitness oriented. He lifts weights, is a former bouncer & played college basketball. So I was terrified of the fight I would have on my hands when I told him about wanting this surgery.
You could have knocked me over with a feather when he told me that I had better do it & that he would if he could. He has been behind me 100%.
Once I am post op & making this tool work; we will see if he confesses to the thoughts I anticipated.

Happy ten year annniversary.  I love to dine at the Elephant Bar in Albq when we are in the area.  I've not had anyone say that to my face yet.  I have had people ask how  I can manage eating so little.  I don't think they believe me when I say my digestive system is much happier.

 happy anniversary!

my mom hasn't said that she thought i took the easy way out (she saw me struggling before surgery working out and dieting, hell we even went to the gym together and my body that was double her weight could do more!), but she has said that she could never do what i'm doing and how proud she is.

I think if you hooked my boyfriend up to a lie detector he would confess that he doesn't think I will stick with it.  And why not?  He was with me through the first failure.  I know that when I had my first WLS he was worried about how my eating would affect things as far as our favorite activity, going out to eat.  He only has one day off a week and from the beginning that is what we would do, find a place to go out to eat, usually someplace new and exciting.  We were eating buddies.  I could tell he was worried about how this would change.  I was so determined to prove to him that things wouldn't change and they didn't.  We went to the same places and I ate the same things.  And I failed my first WLS miserably.  Plus he got to see how sick I got.  I wasn't surprised that he wasn't all in when I had my revision.
This time I am still determined to not let my surgery affect our time together while still eating healthy and within my guidelines.  My motto is that no matter where I go I can find something that I can have and so far it's worked out.  But whether or not he thinks I can and will go the distance, I'm not sure he really believes that.  He has been with me through fat and thin, and fat and thin, and fat and thin, and fat and thin, and fat and thin.  Literally.  In the 17 years I have known him I have lost weight to a normal size and regained it more times then I can count, even after WLS.  I can't blame him for not wanting to put money on me.  I don't have a lot of faith in myself, either.  One thing for sure.  He knows this isn't the easy way out by any means.
