I HATE dinner planning. "What's for dinner" will usually give me some serious anxiety if I'm rushed or tired and don't have any inspiration.
So I saw this on Pinterest a long time ago, and finally got around to making one. A menu board.
Basically, (I'll try to be concise) it's an 11x14 frame, the insert covered with scrapbook paper. A small paper-covered box and 7 decorated clothes pins have been hot glued to the outside of the frame.
I typed up 45 different dinners--the entree and sides. Some of it is fancy, some of it is crockpot, some of it is traditional family-style, and some of it is easy peasy like cold-cut rollups or grilled cheese. I also included pizza, sandwich takeout, sushi, burgers, and frozen dinner. To be realistic. Because come on, now and again, I'm gonna want something easy. I printed them out on cardstock and cut them into strips. Place them in the box, and at the beginning of each week, I pull 7 strips at random and pin them to the board.
This way, I can make my grocery list for the week, and if I have reoccuring side dishes or meal elements (ground beef, green salad, squash, etc) during the week, I can organize them on consecutive days so I can make extra and most efficiently use leftovers. Like, this week, I arranged shepherd's pie (it's actually cottage pie, but whatev) on Thursday, right before stuffed phyllo turnovers on Friday. Both dishes use seasoned ground beef, so I can just make a big batch and save myself some work.
And if the day comes and I don't feel like whatever I have planned? I can always rearrange the strips, since I know I have the groceries available. Hoorah!
Anyway, dinner tonight is beef ravioli in rosa sauce with green tossed salad and green peas. 53

Breakfast was most of a little turkey sausage patty with some shredded cheese melted on top (was too lazy to scramble up any eggs this morning and no time!)
Lunch - went out with friends to a sandwich place, ordered a chicken schrawma (sp?) but just ate some of the meat with a little tomato and ranch dressing
Supper - A few rotini noodles with meat sauce (mostly ate meat pieces)
Also have been having 2 protein drinks/day - love the Jay Robb Orange Dreamcicle mixed with either some orange or lemonade crystal light.

it's the end of my first day on my surgeon's pre-op diet. i am STARVING. ok, not really. but i'm having serious head issues. i feel so hungry. not sure if it's my head or real hunger.
