This is one of the main reasons I don't discuss my diet.  What I eat is outside the norm for a post op, but I work hard.

Pre-ops and Post-ops should read this carefully as it will take you far in your journey to success and make it a much easier journey.

I think the key is to realize that a Diet is not an evil thing, or to not associate what we believe a diet is, all of the things we tried and failed.  A diet is a life style, healthy people and athletes have diets it isn't that hard if you commit.

Exactly, I know some folks hate the word diet, it brings back negative times failed diet attempts.  It doesn't have to be a negative word at all in my mind.....whether it's a diet or a life style change it's making healthy choices MOST of the time.

I think some people's heads would explode if they knew what you ate every day, LOL.

I got into a disagreement (a friendly one) with someone here *****vised from RNY to DS and was tryign to "warn" people away from the RNY because they would have to be on a Diet (I like the capital "D" evil "diet" word vs. the small "d" healthy-eating-plan-diet word) for the rest of their lives and they would be miserable (and would still regain their weight).  He simply refused to believe that anyone who had a RNY and said they did not feel like they were on a Diet (complete with deprivation and food cravings) was being honest.  I honestly do not.  I eat like a healthy-conscious normal weight person.  If I really want a small amount of dessert or something carb-y, I have it... BUT we are talking about several years post-op after I worked damn hard during that first year to completely overhaul my eating habits.

That very familiar evil little voice still sometimes whispers to me, though... and when it says that it will be ok if I go ahead and buy that package of a dozen freshly baked oatmeal raisin cookies, and that I will be able to control myself and eat just half a cookie at a time, I have to get nasty with it and tell the evil little liar    to STFU.  I keep waiting for it to get discouraged and move on to someone else who will give in to it...  but so far, no luck.

Our plan is NOT that different to a DS'ers - high protein, low carb, and they generally eat a lot of fatty stuff ...

I know plenty of DS'ers that never got to goal and are fighting regain - it is not a perfect surgery by any means ...

I'm thrilled for those that work their surgery, whether it's the band, sleeve, RNY or DS - but none of us can eat crap with impunity!

Yes, I also know a couple of DSers who did not get to goal or have regained a little bit of weight (and I wonder how that guy that I had the disagreement with has fared with his DS), but most do have less trouble maintaining their weight loss than RNYers and they have more leeway in their eating habits than we do.

No WLS surgery is a automatic thin "happily ever after", though, that's for sure.

I don't feel deprivation. Though I do know that many postop RNY people probably look at my "diet" and know they would feel deprived on it. I'm a weirdo though.

I love it when people tell me that they know my feelings better than I know them.
