Ignoring people and relying on them not recognizing you

We had an employee 4 or 5 years ago that was loco - the kind you would expect to come back to the office and shoot people.

We knew we had to get rid of her, but we had to be very careful how we did it.  We waited until we had 5 minutes with nothing to do, so we "laid her off" due to lack of work.  It went well fortunately.

I have run into her a couple of times, and it always ended up with her begging for a job, which as you can imagine was very uncomfortable. 

Anyway, I ran into her last week at the grocery store and could walk right past her several times, and she had no idea who I was.   A very good thing not to be recognized in this case.

Now THAT is definitely a situation where not being recognizable is an advantage!
