Admitting that I haven't quit smoking yet.
So back in February I posted that I was starting Chantix again to quit.

Well here I am almost 6 months later and still haven't managed to quit. I keep saying today is the last day, tomorrow is the day and so on. I NEED TO QUIT!!!!!! I am terrified of an ulcer. I take prilosec daily in hopes to avoid it but this isn't the way to be. I need to quit smoking. I have been taking the chantix off and on (it hurts me when I take it) but I am committing AGAIN to quit, damnit.
I wi**** wasn't so hard. I kicked a drug addiction no problem, easy peasy almost 10 years ago but quitting smoking cigarettes, not as easy.
Please keep your fingers crossed that I am successful this time. I want so bad to not smoke (non smokers may never understand this but anyone who has at some point smoked will get how hard it is).
Thank you all :-)

I'm not a smoker but I work in a hospital and hear a lot about drugs. I've heard nothing good about chantix. I've known several people who are very successful with an electric cigarette. Also, have a friend who was a heavy smoker, got prescribed wellbutrin, and quit pretty fast. She hasn't smoked in 4.5 months and doesnt miss it. Apparently wellbutrin makes cigs taste like crap. (I thought they did already). Good luck!!!
Aren't Chantix and Wellbutrin the same drug?
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.

Welbutrin IS used to help quit smoking and is covered by insurance it is similar to a not covered quit smoking drug that is not covered....I thought it was chantix too
Tasting like crap can be good

It's tough, my surgeon requires cessation 30 days prior to surgery and a negative nicotine test or they won't do the proceedure. I have wanted to quit for a long time, but I also am mind warped by the act of smoking. I have been 97% smoke free since 06/30/2012 (21 Days), when I say 97% I mean that I have smoked probably 10 cigarettes over that time, but I have been completely smoke free for over a week now. I have been using Chantix and it has worked wonders. I am pre op and it does give me a killer belly ache if I take it without food. I have my nicotine test on 07/30/2012, pre op 08/06/2012, and surgery 08/09/2012.
It's a battle to quit smoking and I have found that I sometimes confuse anxiety with wanting a cigarette. For instance, when I was waiting for my approval letter for surgery, not smoking was awfully difficult, but as soon as I got notice of approval I was more at ease, hence confusing anxiety for needing a cigarette.
Good luck to you.

I gave up several times - some of those times for years - until I gave up 10 years ago this Christmas. It is indeed a difficult addiction to kick and I sympathise but along with WLS, it is the best decision I ever made for my health.
I did it with nicotine patches and a lot of willpower ... I wish the same for you - good luck!!!

The cause of death on my Mother's death certificate is "smoking." She tried very hard to quit smoking in her later years, but had a hard time giving in to just that one. When she died, the furniture in her apartment could not be sold. The apartment people had to replace the carpet and use special paint to repaint her walls. Every time I would go to visit her, I would have a severe asthma attack, and my nose would run from the minute I came into her house until I showered when I came home.
My father's death was probably hastened by the fact that Mom couldn't stop smoking. He spent the last year of his life on oxygen in a house full of cigarette smoke.
All this, despite the fact that my grandmother died of emphysemia-- from smoking, and my grandfather died of stomach cancer--from smoking.
I have never smoked, but I do understand addiction. You might want to supplement the Chantix with some hypnosis. If not, just think about all the people who have died from smoking. That would probably keep me from lighting up even if I were so inclined.
Thank you for quitting. I don't want anyone to watch their loved ones die from smoking ever again.

I get it, really I do. It's been a difficult situation for me too. I purchased Chantix also and it hasn't caused me any side affects except slight stomach discomfort. If I eat when I take it that seems to help.
I was doing so well until last week when work stress just got the best of me. I am going to attempt yet again to stop. Definitely not easy.
