Veterans and self-care

So I notice a trend toward page frickin six of the "are vets condescending" thread. New folks wondering if they are a nuisance to veterans.

We go through this on the boards sometimes so I want to make one thing abundantly clear.

Yes, newbies, sometimes you are all pains in the asses.

But NO that does not mean we want you to stop posting or post somewhere else or stop sharing your problems.

Think of it like a family member. Sometimes your family is a pain to deal with. But you love them so you don't tell them all to go to hell and never call you again. But you ARE allowed to vent sometimes how much they get on your damn nerves.

Think of vets that way. Far better for us to have a complaint thread every now and again and blow off steam than to hold in those normal and natural feelings of fatigue and blow up on one or more people we truly care about on this board.

I think so long as we are RESPECTFUL about the way we vent these feelings (for instance I should not say "Paul C. is a complete asshole!!!!!")<---love you Paul!

And while we are at it...vets...I think we are actually pretty good at self regulating. You'll hear many of us say what kinds of posts we don't respond to. Translation: they get on our nerves and we don't want to be disrespectful to you.

That does NOT mean don't post about stalls or NSVs. But recognize that we KNOW which questions we've answered a million times and know that yours may be one time too many. And truth be told we may get on YOUR nerves and YOU may choose not to open OUR posts as a result. It's a two way street. We have our own unique brand of "pain in the assdedness."

But we don't need to segregate. Nobody needs to go anywhere else. Sometimes folks just need tos say how they feel which is HEALTHY.

I just read all seven pages of that thread.  Maybe another solution would be for some of the 'mid-level' folk to answer some of those common questions (like the three week stall) when we can. By 'mid-level' I mean not a vet but more than six months out.

I admit I get tired of some of the most comon questions.  But I don't have to answer them if I'm tired of doing that.  I don't want anyone to stop posting questions.  Although it might be helpful to read the last page of pasts first, because we do get those "I have not lost any weight in two days, what am I doing wrong, how come my surgery isn't working, OMG" posts multiple times a day.  But I still want people to post.  I don't think it means people are stuipd or annoying if they don't know certain information.  Sometimes I think it means their surgeons and dieticians did a really poor job educating them, but that's not a person's fault.  I want people to feel free to ask questions.

did I miss this thread? where's it at? I don't find any of our veterans being rude nor disrespectful. I feel that all of our vets are quite helpful, and if we don't like the answers, it's not how they have put it, it is how we received it. Just my two cents worth.

I stay mainly over on the LW board but do venture here from time to time.  I just skip those that I have answered tons of time.  I do wish folks would be better prepared so it wouldn't through them into such a tail spin.  I think some Drs and Nuts do a very poor job.
