Recall on Arctic Zero

I was just at the grocery and the cashier pointed out a section on my receipt where it had the UPC codes of  8 flavors of Arctoc Zeo that had been recalled.  (I purchased it once, and hated it so much hat I threw half of it out (and even that half I had to eat w/SF hot fudge on it!), but the purchase was in their system because of the loyalty card program.  Anyway, Kroger will give refunds on them if you return them.  The note on the receipt indicates that it contains milk products (so I am guessing that the packaging and nutritional information does NOT say that and people who were allergic to milk were having trouble).

I read on HungryGirl.com that the package changed to add that it contains milk products (whey I believe).  So you did not like it? I was thinking of trying it.  Maybe I will buy one small one first to see if I like it.

I bought the mint chocolate chip and hated it.  Even putting SF hot fudge on it barely made it edible (and by the time you add the fudge sauce, the calories are up to what it would be for some real ice cream or frozen yogurt which DO taste good and are nice and creamy!).  The Arctic Zero has a very icy texture, and is not creamy at all. Imagine a mint Popsicle in a tub.  It also had a weird aftertaste.  Ick.  Nik also tried it and did not like it. You might search for a thread on it from a number of weeks back to see what others had to say.

My grandma who had the RNY said she loved it, but only the chocolate peanut butter & strawberry flavors.  She said the rest was gross.  I havent tried it yet, but want too.

I tried it after seeing it mentioned here the other day. Although, it's not ice cream or even frozen yogurt, I liked it. It's cold and wet. I agree that the flavors could be better or more pronounced, but overall it seemed ok to me. The chocolate peanut butter was a bit better than the mint chocolate ... Those were the only choices I found. The choc peanut butter I find has more chocolate flavor than does the choc mint, but I didn't taste peanut butter in it at all.

The negative for me is the price. At almost $5 a pint, it's pretty high, but I'd still buy it occasionally.

My suggestion is to give it a try, but keep your expectations low. Regardless of what the label says, this is not a creamy product that tastes like ice cream.

I was wondering why the whole shelf in Whole Foods was cleared out...... hmmmm, hopefully they'll repackage it and start production again because I'm an odd bird who actually sorta liked it. Only tried the chocolate peanut butter & strawberry so far. Possibly because it's so mediocre that it doesn't become a trigger food for me!

I rarely eat substitute foods - try to eat the "natural" product whenever I can - but my next door neighbour does supermarket demos and I am the lucky recipient of any "overs" that she has ...  (Always panty liners, and Metamucil last week!)

So ... two weeks ago I came home from my boyfriend's and found 3 pints of this stuff in my freezer.    I agree, if I could eat ice cream I would, cos this bares very little resemblance to anything creamy and delicious,  but as I can't touch even a spoonful of ice cream without a major dumping episode, this actually wasn't too bad as a frozen dessert for me.

Having said that, I still have 2.5 pints sitting in my freezer ...  I suppose I have just got used to NOT eating ice cream and I forget about it    Maybe I'll eat some tonight!
