job rant - manager expects too much
I have never related more with a post than this one. I go back to work tomorrow after being on a two week vacation to have by-pass. The first day of my vacation should have been Saturday two weeks ago but no I spent 9 hours in the office trying to tie up loose ends so that things would be smoother while i was out. Well it was like this was the best decision of my life (by-pass) the second best decision is that from this point forward they are only going to get 110 % of me. LOL Is it possible that we do this to ourselves? They can and will replace us the day after we are gone. I think that it is sorta like we are their enabler. I believe without a doubt my contribution is above average but I need to take a stand on how much they can get. They will by nature push till there is nowhere to push. I know that I am right about this and plan to stand my ground. Who ever heard of a company getting rid of someone for taking a logical stand against being worked to death. While there i will give 110% but no more will I let work run me I must regain control or just before i die I will look back and see nothing but the company has lived. This surgery was for me to have a better life.....one that I intend to live. I am sorry to go on and on but you sure hit a nerve..LOL I sure hope you are able to come to terms with your Manager and wish me luck with mine.

Yes, you are right... some managers/companies will push and push until there is absolutely no more room to push. The ironic thing is that this company, in general, has an pretty good emphasis on work-life balance!. Apparently, however, someone forgot to tell a couple of the managers! I have decided to address the issue with one of the other managers tomorrow because I have given pretty much all I am willing to give at this point, especially after being told I was not being a team player!
The work-life balance really IS important, so I am glad that you will be striving to achieve a better balance, too.
