OT - Update on the roommate

 Maybe me cussing him out had some effect.

I get a text this morning that he's done housework.

NOW, this could be because the divas grandmother (their dad's mom) has been over for the last few days (she's on an exodus of her own but we are pretty good friends so it's been a nice visit) and today she insisted on doing my laundry and cleaning my bathroom for letting her have a reprieve from the grown children/grandchildren she can't seem to get away from in her own household.

So I think maybe she shamed him by virtue of her insistence on cleaning?

I dunno. I'll keep reporting back as this situation unfolds.

Maybe and I hope it lasts and that he has finally woken up and realized that you are indeed helping him when probably no one else would so he better act right...  Keep us posted...  Oh BTW, did you ever get your AC working????  I have not heard about that  outcome yet.

 LOL. Well...yes and no.

NO - the landlord is not going to fix the central AC. He was honest and said he just doesn't have the money to overhaul the whole system like it needs to be. He seems to feel regretful that he hired shoddy workers to install it in the first place (his exact words: "my trying to be thrifty is going to cost me big money.")

HOWEVER

He did take down my rent some and provided ONE window unit (I was not satisfied with that BUT I still had a few units from my old house so whatever). He also had a handyman come out that next day to remove the security bars from the windows so they could go into the windows.

So...I have AC. Not the way I wanted to, but I have it.

I read your original post. All I could think was the best intentions can turn out on you like a German shepherd! LOL!

I hope things DO get and stay better. It's such a nice thing you're doing, but don't let it ruin your safe haven (your home). That's so important to you and your family.

There may be some very good reasons this guy is in the fix he's in. Time will tell...

and remember, YOU CAN'T FIX EVERYTHING. Hugs!!

Now you've got his mom, too????  You have much too good a heart.

Help the little old lady out (because she's obviously being a good guest) but tell her little boy that when Mom goes, he needs to find his own place.  This just isn't working out.  Calmly, not angrily, but firmly.


Some people will leech off people as long as the people will let them.
