I am officially COMPLETELY fed up with this insomnia!

I know that I am not a particularly patient person, but I think that I have been MORE than patient with the various attempts to find something to help with this ridiculously persistent insomnia!  When I have taken Sonata in the past, the 2mg was plenty to guarantee quickly falling asleep and a full night of uninterrupted sleep.   Now, however, even 3mg of Sonata just makes me zombie-like but not sleepy.  I cannot take Ambien (it gives me auditory hallucinations... a really bad thing for someone with PTSD!), I tried some melatonin (no help), and the samples my PCP had of Sonata did not help either. I may have to try a higher dose of that, though (my PCP suggested trying the Lunesta first).

I have generally had more trouble sleeping ever since my RNY (but I have also needed less sleep), but the really bad insomnia just started a few months ago.  Menopause is just one giant PITA.  It certainly makes me appreciate the 18 years between my hysterectomy and this nonsense of not having to deal with anything  "female".

The worst part of it is that the urge to snack at 3am is pretty hard to resist. Sigh...

I hated the insomnia also;  I found that my only relief was "Carb Coma".

I started doing crackers & cheese at bedtime.  Result:  Nitey-nite!!

Now I find that if I mentally go through the process of mopping the kitchen floor, I rarely make it past the point of putting the chairs upside-down on the table!  But I do get the floor swept!

Good luck!

In a person with hypooglycemia, a Carb Coma could be easily translated into Real Coma. Seven pringles and I'm out for the count, but I might not wake up either. Ever!

I'm not saying to super-carb it, but some carbs with protein (cheese & crackers) works for me.

You might try something like that just to see what happens.  Real coma is not good, I agree!

I know what you mean, but when I get carb-coma it's from straight up carbs. And straight up carbs without cheese (as you mention) would have my RH flipping me out. I only eat crackers if my RH is acting up, as part of stabilizing.

Overall I think that relying on carbs to sleep is not a good plan. But everyone comes up with the plan tht works for them in their situation.

Ah Lora I can so relate to your battle with insomnia.  Mine got really bad after RNY.  I was taking ambien prior to RNY, but then I started to get weird side effects so I switched over to Lunesta.  For the most part, I am getting better results with Lunesta, but there are still nights I am lucky to get 3 hours of sleep.

I honestly can see why Michael Jackson had his doctor knock him out each night,  I know that sounds odd, but when all you want to do is sleep and you know you need to sleep and can't if I had a doctor available at home that could put me under I so would do it.
