Hunger
You all may have heard me talk about my poverty eating challenge. It's half market research for the organization I work for and half me wanting to expose myself to a glimpse of the daily realities of those who are TRULY hungry.
So the concept is simple: from now until Friday I only spend $1.50/day on food. No, it won't be easy (and btw do NOT try this at home! I can't say that enough) but it is already changing the way I think about food and eating. At the very least I'm hoping this extreme example can help highlight some creative ways to eat healthfully on a (not so drastically reduced) budget.
Anyhoo...so far I have the following updates to offer:
1. Intro - Why the Hell I am doing this? (and more about the mechanics of it and WHAT I shall be eating)
2. Day one impressions so far
Be sure to check it out. You can also follow my impressions on Twitter with the hashtag #HungryNik. That's more moment-to-moment, "what the hell have I gotten myself into?" commentary. :)

best of luck to you and i wish you much success! sometimes i think, wow here in America, we have bountiful food, clean fresh water, and we worry about the kind of car we drive. the rest of the world would love to have our luxuries. we have a government that takes care of its citizens with food, housing and medical care if they are too poor to pay for it. i gave my baby antibiotics that cost all of ten dollars and i thought, what if he lived in a 3rd world country? would he die? perspective...
i am straining my brain to think of food ideas. i was going to say "dollar store tuna" then I realized 1.50 a day is it. dried beans really is what i am coming up with. and eggs. but of course i see you have thought of that, too. TVP...seems I saw a rather large bag of that fairly inexpensive? like the per serving cost may fit.

I had plenty of ideas! BUT since I shopped at the grocery store nearest me (cuz gas costs money too!) that limited what I bought. If you get a minute to watch the intro video I show what I bought to eat. :)

Actually, the governement doesn't take care of its citizens with housing and medical care. Lots of people are homeless and lots of people, including babies, die or suffer because they don't have medicines or medical care, right here in the USA. There are undernourished people, too. So while most of us on this forum have been able to buy lots of food and get WLS, we're the lucky ones in our country.
