I am 6 weeks out and on a regular diet.  I'm not supposed to eat bread, pasta or rice until
I am 3-6 months out.....this includes tortillas.  Can RNY people eat hard taco shells?

I would make a taco using some lettuce as a "shell"

Hard taco shells are basically huge corn chips.  If you are not allowed to eat chips, I wouldn't eat a taco shell.

It depends on what YOUR eating plan says. Mine says its ok. For me a serving is 1 taco so half of the nutrional value shown in the post above

MY eating plan doesn't address hard shell tacos & I don't go back to my Weight Control Center for another month.  That is why I asked.

I'm 6wks out too and I was thinking about using a leaf of lettuce for a shell.  I hear that's pretty good.

I eat tacos all the time, without the shell.  I love tacos and don't miss the shell at all.  I mix refried beans and/or black beans (depending on what I have) in with the meat a lot of the time.  Add cheese, salsa, little lettuce, and black olives.  Wish I wouldn't have already had dinner, that sounds good right now!  LOL

I've pretty much made my own rules based on what I tolerate and what I am able to eat in moderation.  I don't tolerate sugar (I dump) and I can't eat processed foods and things with gluten in moderation so I stay away from them.  Other then that, I can have anything I want as long as it is in normal amounts and I am able to stop with no issues.  That is a long way of saying that many nights I have Nik's Taco Casserole for dinner on a tostada, which is like a taco shell.  If I go out to eat at a Mexican restaurant, which is maybe once every few months, I will have some tortilla chips and salsa.
I don't know if my surgeon's plan allows those things because I used that plan as a guideline for the first 6 months to a year, and I was quite strict with myself, but once I got to maintenance I decided to venture out and learn how I was going to live my life in relation to food decisions.

RNY people can eat anything they want, technically.  It's all about choices and tolerance.  I wouldn't make a habit of eating them because they are high in fat and carby.
