A nice alternative to a cracker...

Just thought I'd share what I had for lunch today:

It's TVP tuna (click the link below the pic to find out what that is if you don't know) on flat Granny Smith apple slices. Sweet, salty, crunchy, GOOD!

Hmmm... that's an interesting concept.  I like.  Not so much the tuna, but I can think of alternatives... like the baba ganoush I have sitting in the fridge at home.

I do it with chicken salad too but never baba ganoush. That might be an option. My next attempt is going to be with hummus. I'm also working on a savory sauteed apple side dish.

I love my weirdo taste buds.

wow that looks good :) I will try anything that is a alternative to crackers, which I eat too much of so I keep them in the store. Thanks as always for your good ideas

OK, level with me:  does TVP really taste anything like real tuna?  I've been eating vegetarian for about 4 months now, and TVP is the one thing I've not managed to psych myself into trying.

You've probably tried it a million times and just not known it.  It's in many burgers and other dishes in commercial preperations...

TVP tastes like whatever you put TVP with. That's why I reserve the tuna liquid. If you soak it in the tuna liquid, it takes on the flavor of the tuna.

I'd also like to add if you've ever had imitation bacon bits you've had TVP as well.

Well, I'll be darned.  That's handy information to have, right there!  I was thinking of the stuff that I see in the admittedly small health food section of our local ma and pa type store, that looks suspicisously like dog kibble.  I could live with the imitation bacon bit type stuff.
