How long before you went back to work?

I was out for 6 weeks, but I did have some complications that had me in the hospital longer than I anticipated. Each person is different.

I'm pre-op but planning on taking a full four weeks off.  I'm a night shift nurse and am constantly on my feet.  I don't get enough rest as it is.  So I'm in no rush to go back to nights.  Also I do a lot of lifting and moving patients and such.  I can't imaging going back to that in two weeks.  I think it really depends a lot on what kind of work you do and how well you are recovering.

RNY on 05/03/12
I had open RNY. My surgeon stated expected recovery is 6 to 8 weeks. I opted for 8 weeks just to make sure everything was going well. Besides with the restrictions I was on, my job doesn't have modified duty.
Taking it one day at a time.
