I have one of those electric flyswatters that looks like a tennis racket. They're so sickeningly satisfying when they zap a big juicy one.

for the flies this seems to work but i don't know how well this year. if you fill a ziplock bag a quarter full with water and put some shiny pennies in it. seal it then put them up on your deck or other area's the flies don't come around. I don't know why but it does work and no yucky chemicals. Not sure if they are in the house if it would make them leave but a good thing to try on your porches.

In the part of Michigan I'm at we've got a BIG problem with Box Elder bugs--the whole sunny side of our house is covered with them on warm days--we spray, swat and keep the doors closed but they still manage to find a way in--absolutely hate those buggers !!!. Right now the ants have started appearing too. Makes me long for the freezing days of winter !!!

This is gross, but try some of the fly strips.  They work really well when we have had problems with flies.  Just be careful not to walk into it in the middle of the night.

Now if I could only find a way to get rid of the mosquito's.  We live close to a creek so they are  everywhere including inside our house.  For some reason they ignore my husband but love my daughter and me.  My poor daughter is allergic and has huge welts all over her body.

To keep some of them from getting in your house go to Lowe's.  There is a product that is a bag that you can hang outside your house.  You fill it with water and then hang it several feet away from the door.  There is a chemical in it that flies are attracted to because it smells like rotting meat.  The flies can get in the bag but they can't get out and they die.  It is the most effective thing I have found to reduce the fly and gnat population around my house.  Also make sure your sink drains are closed when your are not using them. I have found that to be almost a breeding area for flies.

I'm right there with you on the flies. For having such tiny brains, they have it figured out when I have the swatter in my hand, they make their tiny asses scarce every time! Between me and my big dog, we have been bonding over fly hunting the past few days...If I swat them, he'll happily eat them!! (YUK....) But when you don't have to pick up the dead ones..I'm grossed out, but happy.
