I'm so sorry you lost your man. What was he like? Obviously he was very smart and persistent to get a PhD.  I got my BSN and called it a day. I hope you feel his presence today.

Yes, he was smart and persistent... and gentle and compassionate.  He was a hard worker, a runner, a passionate advocate for gay rights and limited government, and a Jimmy Buffet fan.  He wanted to work with teens (whereas you couldn't pay me enough to work with troubled teens full-time!).  His only "bad" qualities were a somewhat indifferent attitude towards dogs (he always had cats... and he gave up a cat in order to be with me since I am highly allergic to them) and a certain grouchiness until he was able to have a run after work most days.  And he liked some really bizarre music.

I am not Jewish, but when he died a friend of mine from Vanderbilt (where I met him) sent me  a couple of Yahrtzeit candles to use each year in remembrance.  To this day, I burn a candle on this date (although it is usually a tealight scented candle).

I like that Jewish ritual. I'm sorry for all those teens that missed out.
He sounds like a wonderful man..all except that dog part. Dogs love me...cats hate me.
I am so sorry for your loss.
