Wellbutrin and anxiety

I'm just wondering what other peoples experiences have been with wellbutrin. I've been on it for about 2 months now and I feel more anxious than before. My dr was going to change me to celexa but she wants me to wait until I'm done with my iron infusions. I've been isolating myself from the things I used to do and feel sleepy alot. I'm confused...

My psychiatrist would say that wellbutrin is not a bad choice, but effexor is also well suited to depression with anxiety.  The problem is, he would say, that wellbutrin elevates your mood so you feel the anxiety more.

My personal opinion is that antidepressants are better managed by psychiatrists than by PCP's (not to disparage anyone's good experience with PCP's managing their antidepressants).

Medications like Wellbutrin may not work exactly the same with everyone.  I use it and most days it works well. I do also use Ativan for anxiety.  Your personal body chemistry will determine which medication will help you overcome depression and anxiety.  I used Effexor in the hospital for about 10 days several years ago, and my bp got to be very high. I needed pills to bring it down to somewhat normal levels. I finally asked the doc if effexor had any side effects, and was told around 5% of patients expereince elevated bp levels. I was taken off of effexor and began wellbutrin, and have had no elevated bp issues since then.  These type of medications typically take around 6-8 weeks to see any benefit.  You may end up trying several meds before you find one or a ****tail of multiple meds to deal with your personal issues.  I hear from many patients in our medical script review group who end up trying a variety of meds before they find beneficial treatment. I took welbutrin xl but had to change to one that could be cut before surgery and one that was not time released or extended release because of our absorbtion issues.
I hope you can find something to help!!

What Dave says is very true.  My point was that I just believe that psychiatrists are more equipped to deal with difficult medication issues than PCP's.  (BTW... after surgery, I stopped the Effexor and am now using ativan as needed for anxiety).

I'm not sure that Wellbutrin isn't a good choice for you.  My husband uses Wellbutrin and Chlorazapam for his depression and anxiety, and I don't think that has caused too many problems for him.

I have some problems with Celexa, but I would trust my psychiatrist's advice with it.  I do know that I don't like the idea of switching meds a lot, so I hope that whatever you try next works.  Anxiety is no fun.

It caused my blood pressure to drop too low.  I was terribly, terribly dizzy.

I have been taking Wellbutrin for years and it works well for me, but about 5 years ago I had to add celexa to the mix. I take both now (fairly low dose of each) and it is working great.  I have not had any issues with the meds since surgery Good luck figuring out what works for you...Tina

I personally did not find Wellbutrin to be useful, either alone or in conjunction with another anti-depressant.  My clients who have taken it have had very mixed results.  Some thought it did absolutely nothing others found it very helpful.  As with all anti-depressants, the only way to know how you will react is to try it.

I have been taking Zoloft for years for anxiety but recently began having panic attacks. My pcp suggested changing to paxil as it works better for anxiety, panic and irritation. I will be.switching next week. Hope that helps.
