OT - Murdering your realtor in your head isn't illegal, is it?
So my realtor…let’s just call him Joe Idiot. So Joe Idiot emails me this morning quite perturbed that the mortgage company has sent him an extended short sale approval letter that expires on May 25. In his email he says he didn’t know it was coming! Had he not been standing RIGHT BY his fax machine he might have missed it! (Does this raise a red flag to anyone else?)
Well that seemed to be all Joe Idiot had to say in the moment so I emailed him back asking what the next step is. Cuz you know…I DON’T WANNA FRIGGIN OWN THIS HOUSE ANYMORE!!!
He emails me back asking me to call the title company to see about settling by the 25th. Um…excuse me? You are the realtor. Arranging the closing is YOUR job, not mine.
But just for ****s and giggles I call the title company and speak to a rep. Let’s call her Frustrated Fran. Now I’d spoken to Frustrated Fran before, along with other people Joe Idiot has asked me to call in the pursuit of nothingness. Each time I get the same response: why are YOU calling us? Why is HE not calling us? I told HIM to do x, y and z and he hasn’t done it yet and until he does it we cannot do anything.
So I expected what she had to say. I was not surprised.
According to Frustrated Fran, the buyers agent has YET AGAIN not turned in all the paperwork needed to go to closing. Frustrated Fran has called the buyer’s agent numerous times to try to resolve this to no avail. So just yesterday Frustrated Fran emailed Joe Idiot telling him if he wanted to close on the house, he needed to light a fire under the buyer’s agent.
Now this may beg the question…why did Joe Idiot tell ME to call the title company to arrange a closing he KNEW could not happen? That would be a good question. A valid question.
So here’s where we stand. The damn short sale approval expires in two days. The title company needs the proper paperwork which they then have to have looked over by an attorney before they can even schedule a closing. Is it just me, or does it seem like it would take a miracle for all this to come together in time for a Friday closing? And once again, here we are at the end of the month when we are unlikely to get an extension on the letter because the mortgage company’s closing department will be swamped. Oh and by the way…the damn contract on the house has expired so we need a new one of those too, per Joe Idiot who told me this last week yet has sent me…nothing.
I think God is trying to tell me something.
My one apprehension about short selling is that from what I’ve read, it makes filing for bankruptcy (which was the other option I considered) harder as I am effectively eliminating my biggest source of debt. I chose the short sale as it forced me to make a decision in good time (something I am notoriously bad at with regards to major life decisions). But now I am wondering. The contract on the house has expired, meaning I don’t HAVE to sell it if I don’t want to. I could very well say screw it and file bankruptcy and surrender the damn house in the process.
My ONLY reservation in doing that is that I think maybe they’d charge me for the title company services and whatnot if I pull out of this deal.
So I think I may be stuck. And on the verge of murdering my realtor. If you are the praying type, pray for me. If you swing chickens, get them birds flying. I am about at my wit’s end with this.
That is all.

There is nothing worse than undue stress. Maybe if you threaten to charge him for your "fees" he will get the hint. For everyone else, don't jump on me, I am JOKING HERE!
At any rate, I love how you wrote the story and I love your writing. Chin Up somehow things will work themselves out for the best.
Seriously, Nik, I *would* call Idiot Joe and tell him that if you need to pay additional fees because he has not held up his end of the deal, you ARE going to charge them back to him. I would also explain that to the broker.
And then I would send a certified letter to the broker explaining myself in writing as to the need for this due to Idiot Joe's dilatory behaviors.
