XP - Quest bars - to good to be true? For me - they are...

I can only eat the bars 1/2 at a time.  I tried a whole one once and had a very unpleasant reaction.  Not sure it was dumping, but it definitely didn't agree with me.  So I stick to 1/2 only.

I would say its the carbs in the bar. But who knows for sure?

but 17 of those suppose to be just fiber - the one we don't digest or absorb.  But if I do absorb them - then they are not really "fiber" - are they? and the company claim that the bar is low in "net carbs" is false... (net carbs - carbs that affect blood sugar)

My endocrinologist, whom I see for my reactive hypoglycemia, told me to count fiber as if it is normal carbs, he said that even fiber grams can tip the body inot producing too much insulin and then lead to a blood sugar crash.

so sorry H.B. Thanks for the heads up. RH is a pain. I've been fortunate. Happens very rarely.

I've been trying to use beef jerky as my mid morning snack again

Thanks Jody.
There I was so happy to find natural - no soy, very lttle sugar, great protein bar that even when melted - taste OK.  But it never occured to me to check my BS level. No wonder that I gained 5 lbs... I have been eathing them - 2 per day... too much sugar for my body..

I dumped on 1/3 Quest brownie bar.  I agree that they are likely not intentionally misleading about the product, but I sure will not consume them.  My reaction was enough to keep me away from at least the brownie bar forever!  I don't know what in the bar made me dump but it wasn't the SA because I have had more in outher products without problems.  But maybe a combination of that plus everything else in the bar, who knows.

I ordered one of each flavor and found I could eat 1/3 of a bar if I didn't want to get a sick feeling when it got into my digestive track.  I have given them to my husband and kids. They are not their favorite protein bar but will eat them.   I've tried several different protein bars and find I just don't care for any of them. However, I can eat a whole bar in other products.   I don't think I'm the norm because  I couldn't find a bar that I liked when I was thin and working out.  It's like everything else in that we each have individual taste preferences, as well as, digestive system differences.

Quest bars wreak havoc on me, even the NSA ones. I can eat 1/3 of a bar but after that I'll dump.

Hey Obesity Help members,

First of all, thank you for making this thread, HB. We appreciate the time and dedication you all put into your healthy lives. We don't strive for good or great, but perfect. Unlike 99% of protein bar companies, we don't outsource to contract manufacturers. We make our products right here at Quest Headquarters. And we only make Quest products, so there are no other ingredients kept in our facility so nothing unintended could end up in our bars.

The vast majority of our customers have fantastic results with Quest Bars. Many test their blood sugar after eating multiple bars in a day without any problems. We have even tested the individual ingredients with many of our customer and most have no significant spikes. Some people react differently, however. We've had some customers that do get spikes from eating bars that can range from mild to pretty large. We've been amazed at just how differently people can react. To confuse things even more, many people's blood sugars change over time in response to the same foods in the same amounts. Things like whey, nuts, and fiber can result in a blood sugar elevation.

To clarify one point - we do not use oligofructose because it breaks down into fructose over time. Our fiber source is isomalto-oligosaccharide (a prebiotic fiber) which is extremely stable and does not break down over time.

We have some products coming out very soon which contain different blends of proteins and fibers. This is very important to us so we have been working closely with blood sugar sensitive customers to do extensive testing. These may be better suited for some of you.

We look forward to seeing what the Obesity Help community thinks of these new products. To those of you who posted with issues, send us a PM. Once the prototypes are ready (2-6 weeks) we'll send you some to try out. We'd love to hear your results.

We are always on a Quest to make the best, most healthy food products in the world. We truly appreciate how supportive the bariatric community has been and we're grateful to be part of your Quest.

Thanks everyone
