Feeling so much better

Yesterday I posted that I was feeling pretty crappy. Today though, I'm feeling marvelous! don't know what changed from yesterday to today, but whatever it was, I feel good.

On another note, I am not supposed to have protein bars or shakes, doctors orders. But, since I was feeling bad and low energy yesterday, I finally gave in and bought some at Costco. I had one this morning for breakfast and I'm wondering if that's why I feel great today....

Anyways, here's a pic of me from before and from this past weekend:

Glad you are feeling much better today. I am as well. Its funny how little things can make all the difference in the world. I'm actually feeling like eating today, which is fantastic. I was getting worried there for awhile. Every day is different & we just have to take it one day at a time. Here's to hoping we all have many more good days to come.

Edit: Forgot to tell you, you look amazing. Great job!

I'm glad you're feeling better.  Were you getting enough protein with shakes or bars?  I don't know why some surgeons get so worked up about whether or not patients use protein shakes.  Protein shakes are just one more food that is high in protein that we can choose from.  Really no better or worse than many other protein choices.

Thanks! Yeah, crazy how one little thing can make you feel horrible. But feeling good today!

Anyways, about the protein, our doc wants us to get protein from regular foods. The problem for me is that I am eating maybe 2 oz of food per meal, only three meals a day, no snacking and after reading on here I realized I wasn't getting enough protein. At all! But, I was trying to just follow my docs orders. But Monday I tried a sample bar at Costco, and I kept going back for more, so essentially for lunch I had 1/2 a protien bar.

I FELT GREAT! I mean, I've been feeling pretty good, but not like that day. So after my bad day yesterday I decided, what the heck? I'll give it a try. So far, I feel wonderful today. I had a bar for breakfast and an 3/4 oz of cheese.

It would be impossible to get enough protein if you only ate six ounces of food all day.  Meat, which is highest in protein, has about seven grams protein per ounce.  That would be only 42 ounces of protein.  That would be the right amount if your ideal weight was only 84 pounds!

Exactly! My doc said if I wanted to get to my ideal weight (120) I'd have to eat 2 oz at every meal forever! So I have been trying real hard to stick to that. But I finally gave up this week and I've been eating about 3-4 oz a meal now. Plus of course the protein bars I bought. I can't see myself only eating 2 oz forever. I was getting only about 40 o of protien. If that.

Most people that get to their goal weight do NOT eat two ounces at every meal forever.  I eat about eight ounces at every meal (and eat six meals a day) and am five pounds under my ideal weight (according to what my surgeon said my ideal weight was, anyway).

Wow Dee! I didn't know that your Dr. told you to stick to 2 oz per meal. That's crazy! Our plan brings you up to 1 cup of food at the 3 month mark. No mention of weight, just volume. Dr. Park must have her own guidelines, which is odd. I can't even imagine only eating a cup and you're so much further along than I am. You must have been starving! LOL

Dr. Baggs said the reason they say no protein supplements is because people get so obsessed w/ getting x-amount of protein grams in per day that they end up consuming a lot of extra calories to do so. I see how that could occur, but if you're using the shake or bar to replace a meal then that shouldn't be the case. In addition to meals and I see how the calories can add up quickly.

At the end of the day, we have to listen to our bodies and figure out what the best thing to do for us is.
