OT: Moving update

Hello my friends!

I figured now is as good a time as any to give a moving update. I know I’ve been scarce lately.

So…we are completely moved into the new house! (YAY!)

Unfortunately we are NOT completely moved out of the old house. (BOO!)

How can such a thing be? Well, there’s a lot of stuff, for various reasons, I didn’t want to take with me. For instance, as a single mom I couldn’t really afford to replace furniture so our living room furniture is 10 years old and has been used as a bed, a cat scratching post, a dining room table at times and a bunch of other things that leaves me wanting a new living room set. So those things are still at the old house, along with other stuff that needs to be hauled to the dump and things that need to be donated. Fortunately it’s not too, too much.

The old house is also not completely sold yet. SIGH. My realtor. He is special. Long story short, to short sell a house you need a letter of permission from the mortgage company saying it’s ok to accept less than what the mortgage on the house is. So we had that. It has an expiration date.

Well, the buyers didn’t have their paperwork together so the expiration date passed. So my realtor sought to get a new letter. Unfortunately he sorta had a diva moment with the mortgage company on the last day of April (even I know not to eff with mortgage sales departments on the last day of the month) so I think now they just don’t like him.

Anyway, I called yesterday to find out where we are with the new letter, because said realtor said he’s not received it. The mortgage company, in a tone that indicated they clearly thought ME to be special, informs me they reissued the letter, via fax, a week ago and get this (wait for it…), the damn thing expired today!

Ugh. Double ugh. Triple ugh. At this point the house can go to hell. I’m half tempted to burn the damn thing down and get me some insurance money. But I will not. But still this is a monumental pain in the butt and we’re too far along now for me to fire the realtor.

So I bet you’re wondering what the new house looks like. I snapped a few phone pics BEFORE we started moving stuff in. Cuz right now it looks like a damn war zone with all the boxes and totes everywhere and I can’t get a new living room set or new dressers for me and the girls until the old house sells and they give me my moving assistance money. So we wait…

But anyway here are the pics.

Here's the view from the front door into the living room.

And this is the view of the dining room

And this is just the steps. In that little hall beyond is the door to the basement on the right and the galley kitchen beyond.

I like those hardwood floors!!! (and I've been scarce too... busier than a one-armed sailor in a windstorm! What is up with Maryland lately? I think EVERYONE is seeking therapy - no complaints, really, but it just seems like somethings in the water because I've NEVER had this many clients beating down my door or blowin up my phone! )

Great new house!   Looks like it has some great character.   I hope the mortgage company is able to get everything together enough for you to be done with it!

Cool house! Hopefully soon the mortgage company and the real estate diva will both stop being special.

Have you tried giving stuff away on  http://www.freecycle.org/? I can usually get rid of things the same day I post them. It's amazing some of the crap people have come and taken off my hands for FREE!!

Love the new house!!

Ugh!  Everything for a reason though right?  Just not always clear.  I'm sure you'll appreciate it all in the end more for your struggles.

Good luck Nik!

You can forget the arson idea. First thing the insurance company does is check to see if the mortgage is up to date. Also not insured if vacant over 30 days. As for the bank, this is how they usually operate. The foot dragging on a short sale can be incredible. This is why buyers with cash can go to the front of the line unless someone else has some pull.
See if there is a Cort Furniture Rental or similar place near you. They do executive, apartment staging, and pro team rentals. When they are done, the furniture goes to their clearance center. Got my best furniture ever there dirt cheap. A headboard for 20 dollars when the stores wanted a few hundred for example. They also have lamps, dishes, etc. anything a furnished rental would need. Has to be something similar near you.

Thanks for the tip. I was entirely kidding about burning the house down but for what it's worth we just moved out of it last week ;)

No, the mortgage company isn't dragging its feet. It has done everthing it was supposed to do on time. My realtor and the buyer are the eff ups here.

Hopefully it will all end soon.
