OT - why can't guys do the grocery shopping?

I"m just annoyed right now.  A couple weeks ago, my partner went grocery shopping and I asked him to get me some Klondike no sugar added ice cream sandwiches.  Well, he came home with Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches, with 15 grams of sugar.

Over the weekend, I was really craving ice cream but didn't have any.  Today he went to the store and he was going to get himself some ice cream and asked if I wanted some.  I said yes, Klondike brand no sugar added ice cream sandwiches, please.  It needs to be that kind.  They only have three grams of sugar.

So he went shopping, came home and put the groceries away.  I just now went into the kitchen, ready for an ice cream sandwich.

He didn't get ice cream sandwiches.  He got no sugar added Klondike bars.  Which only have six grams of sugar so I can eat them, but it's not what I wanted.

Why is it that guys cannot be counted on to pick up a specific item at the grocery store?  How hard it is to look for the words "no sugar added ice cream sandwich" and a picture of ice cream sandwiches on the box?

LOL Kelly, I don't have an answer for that... I finally gave up. I should have remembered when I told my son to pick up a 1/2 gallon of organic skim milk today... What did he get, he got 2% organic milk....

UGH... Sorry for you guys that read this but come on now....

I know.  I make the most detailed shopping list imaginable.  I will write down what color package something comes in, where to find it in the store, everything.  And I still don't get what I asked for half the time.

I do the grocery shopping most of the time.  Since my back has been bothering me so much lately, he's done it a couple times.  But there are things I won't even ask him to get because I know he won't be able to find them or figure out what to get.  But how hard is it to get Klondike no sugar added ice cream sandwiches?  He was obviously standing right in front of them when he got the Klondike bars.

I heard a rumor that men purposely mess up on things like grocery shopping, laundry and cooking so that you won't want to ask them too often.  Don't tell anyone I said that.

I believe that.  My partner is not stupid.  He has a master's degree, he reads all sorts of intellectual books, he can discuss complicated topics and doesn't sound like an idiot.  It's hard to believe he isn't smart enough to pick up a package of ice cream sandwiches.

I think it is a genetic problem. My husband can't shop for me without calling me at least one time from the store for more instructions...like the detailed list wasn't enough.

For the same reason men can't find things in a refrigerator. I don't know if it's fridge-blindness or what, but I can describe the exact location -- "It's on the top shelf, on the right, behind the cottage cheese, in a blue tupperware" and he'll still rustle around for 5 minutes and then shuffle into the room shrugging, "Uh, I couldn't find it." What the hell? Really?

Must be a glitch on the Y chromosome.

Let me start by saying that while I adore my husband - I do 90% of the shopping and only ask him to pick up 'emergency' items.

And even then, I send him with a printed list that not only lists what the item is and where it is in the store but also has a PICTURE of the box/can/bag.

WIth that, the success rate rises to about 75% of time.

The best excuse ever?  "Well, you wanted tomato sauce, but it takes forever for you to season it the way you want it so I bought some Ragu!"  Seriously made me go "umm...."

OK Man bashers!!  That's enough.  I am a single Dad and do all the grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry, ironing, gardening, house maintenance, car washing and  any other chore that needs to be done around the house.  When I was married it was the same thing because the ex (God rest her soul) couldn't manage to get off her arse and do any of it.  I could probably shop and housekeep circles around most ladies.  It'd be a real treat to have a wife that did all that stuff for me though so I could stick to outside and handyman work.
