who is having trouble getting their vitamins in?

I have trouble since the transplant because the medicine I take now can not be taken with calcium. No calcium 2 hours before or 2 hours after the dose. I take this medicine twice a day. So that's 8 hours a day I can not take calcium
I also take tons of iron.
I always have calcium chews in my pockets. I like popping something that's like candy.

I have a very complex schedule. I am jealous of the folks that just have to take the Rny vitamins. That was easy.

i was never good about taking my vitamins, until i started posting in the daily vitamin check-in. it definitely keeps me accountable, like i'm letting kelly down if i don't get them in (even though i'm sure she doesn't really care that i took all my vitamins lol). but now that it's habit, even when i was away this weekend i only missed one dose of calcium the whole time (the day i left was hectic and i completely forgot about all my vits other than my am dose until 8pm).

Well, I'm glad you are getting them in, but I can't say I'd be devestated if you didn't.  It's not super important to me.  You'd be letting yourself down, though, really.  You're the only one that is gonna suffer serious consequences if you don't take them.

Posting that thread keeps me accountable.  Because I feel pretty silly if I post to remind everyone else about taking their vitamins but have to say I didn't take mine.

I am still struggling to remember. I'm trying really hard, though, and am doing better than before. It's a work in progress.

I'm having a bit of a frustrated battle, though.
Since I take my multi with my calcium, someone here told me I should make sure my multi doesn't contain iron because (as we all know) iron and calcium block each other. I always figured since I'm taking 500mg of calcium with my multi, it would just negate the iron in the multi. But I was told that's not necessarily the case.

So to be safe, I went and bought some Bariatric Advantage chewables, with no iron, and I hate them. They're disgusting. Too artificially sweet and kind of chalky.

So I want to go back to my good ol' Centrum, but the issue above still has me all confounded.

Iron and calcium do NOT block each other.

Calcium blocks iron.  Iron does not do anything to calcium.

You were correct that if you took your multi with iron at the same time as your calcium, you would absorb the calcium but not the iron.  That's what I do, I use Centrum with iron.  But I take it with calcium citrate so I don't absorb the iron, and I just take all my iron separately at a later time.

Go back to your Centrum.

Hooray! Thanks for the info. I'm glad, because I really liked my Centrum.

I, too, have problems getting that 3rd dose of calcium in.  I often miss it three times per week. I need to really concentrate on getting it in.  Buying more Calcet bites might be a good solution. I've been using the Upcal D for the most part.

BTW, I shared the info you provided with my RD (about the Upcal) and she was very apologetic. She said there was no excuse for her not to take the time to read the fine print.

Thanks for your input on that one, Kelly!

I bet she always remembers to read the fine print from now on.

I think she was embarrassed and, frankly, she should have been.  It really bothered me that she was contradicting what I knew and made me second guess myself. I appreciate your taking the time to provide that information, Kelly.

I do fine with most all of my vitamins and minerals. I know after next month when I get my labs done that I'm going to have to add in separate iron again and that's going to screw with my current calcium schedule, but I'm not terribly worried about that. My problem is remembering to take my B12. I can't put it in my handy little weekly pill case because it doesn't hold up in that container. I suppose I could put the bottle on the counter near the case, but I have to tell you that the bottle sitting out there like that is going to drive me crazy. (I like things to be put away. The pill case is pushing it for me.) Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated. I feel strongly about B12 because I've worked in neurology for 12 years and I've seen what B12 deficiency can do.
