who is having trouble getting their vitamins in?

I think we all know how important our vitamins are (if you don't know, tell me and I'll fill you in).  But for many reasons, sometimes it's hard to get them in.  It might be the cost of vitamins, it might be the taste of some chewables, it might just be remembering to take them several times a day, they might make you nauseous, etc.  I've dealt with most of those problems myself.

While those are all valid concerns, it's important to find ways to get the vitamins in anyway.

I was having a lot of trouble remembering my third dose of calcium citrate, so I finally ordered more of the Calcet creamy bites, which are delicious.  I look forward to eating them.  It's like a tiny little snack in the middle of the afternoon.  I don't forget them, I look forward to them.

What problems do you have with getting your vitamins in?  Have you found solutions?

Hi Kelly

I had RNY at the end of December and are not even sure what I am supposed to take. The only one I am good at right now is Calcium Citrate, but are struggling to find a multivitamin that works (prefer chewable) that also contains B12 and D3.

Any ideas?? Thanks for your wisdom!!

You definitely need a multi.  Any halfway decent multi will have B12 and D3.  However, most RNY folks need more D3 than what comes in a multi, and you won't actually absorb the B12 in the multi because you don't have enough intrinsic factor in your new pouch.  You need a sublingual B12 that dissolves under your tongue, or you can get the prescription nasal spray, or do monthly shots.

For a chewable multi, you can get chewable  Centrum for adults most places that sell vitamins.  If you wanna order online, both Celebrate and Bariatric Advantage are good options, but they cost more than the Centrum.

My trouble is just remembering the things half of the time.  Even at a little over 1.5 years out.  Weekdays are a bit easier.  I take my pill box out of my purse and sit it right on my desk next to my keyboard.  Keeps them in sight so I remember to take them.

Weekends are where I go south and forget to take them.  Tried using the alarm on my phone but if I don't take them right when it goes off I'll forget.  Sad but true.

I have managed to come up with half a solution.  Just have to keep working on the other half.

Where do you spend most of your time on the weekend?  I'm sure you're moving around more than during the week when you sit at a desk a lot, but is there a place you can put some vitamins there you'll see them frequently on the weekend?  That's what I had to do to make sure I got all mine in.  I have to keep them in places where I can't overlook them.

I have trouble consistently getting my third dose of calcium citrate too!  I have to take it two hours after my multi (finishing up OPurity chewables) because it has iron in it and I usally forget mid morning at work and cannot take it after 7pm because I take my iron at bedtime.  I may have to try those calcet creamy bites!  Which one do you like the best?  If the lemon tastes like starburst - I am in!

The Calcet doesn't taste like Starburst, but I am told the Bariatric Advantage lemon calcium chews do.  The lemon Calcet tastes almost like cake to me.  And the chocolate tastes like fudge.  I keep the chocolate ones in the freezer and it's like eating a frozen candy  bar.  I also really like the caramel chews from Bariatric Advantage.  When I have the yummy calcium around, I always remember that third dose.

Fudge?  I used to like fudge.  That might work!  Maybe I can chew one on the way home from work!

They don't taste vitamin-y at all, at least not to me.  I like them when I just want a little taste of something sweet.

I have issues remembering to take mine. All of them really. I have set reminders on my phone but still have issues. I would love to find a good way to remember. I always take parts of my vitamins daily but rarely get everything in. I suck.
