What's your vitamin D level?

I honestly don't know yet. I have been on regular gel caps 50,000 iu one time weekly for several months prior to surgery by my PCP due to low levels. I have my next surgeon visit this Thursday.

Ask him to order a vitamin D test for you.  Most patients seem to need about 10,000 IU D3 a day to maintain a level of 80 or above, which is what's needed according to the Linus Pauling Institute.

the gel caps you are taking are D2, which is not absorbed well, and they are in oil, and after RNY we malabsorb fats, so you really need dry D3.

It takes me 50,000 IU dry D3 three times a week to maintain a good level, but many people are able to do OK with less than that.  Apparently I just don't absorb D very well.

I sure will do that and I appreciate your help. My legs are drawing up and hurting bad and I don't know if it's the lack of Vitamin D that my body has been used to for so long or not. Seems like the same thing was going on when my PCP checked the Vitamin D level before and prescribed the med. Very uncomfortable right now.

That could be vitamin D.  Could also be potassium or magnesium.  Or something not at all vitamin related.  Try a heating pad on your legs, that might help.

You can get the 50,000 IU dry D3 from vitalady.com.  I would suggest buying that dose and then you can take one a week or two a week or whatever you need based on your labs.  It's cheaper to take one of those a week than it is to buy a bottle of 5000 IU or 10,000 IU and take one a day, and D3 is a vitamin we don't have to take every single day because we store it in our bodies.
