 I love animals, too. I wasn't suggesting you get a pet but that you might be able to volunteer in some capacity--at an animal shelter, or helping with fund-raising efforts, for instance.

You are right: pets are a big responsibility. That's one reason so many unfortunate ones are abandoned.
