OT - sigh. That was a wasted trip.

Today I drove out to the farm to pick up my milk.  It takes 30 minutes to get there, 30 minutes to get back.  I got there, only to discover I got my days mixed up.  The farmer sells milk to a dairy that picks up milk every other day around noon.  On the dairy pick up days, I (and anyone else getting raw milk there) have to get there before noon, or else after 5 pm when he's done the day's milking, otherwise there is no milk available.  I was thinking the dairy pick up was on odd-numbered days this month.  I was wrong.

So I got to the farm and found there was no milk available.  Now I have to wait until Tuesday and make the trip again (the farmer and his wife have asked people not to pick up milk on Sunday, it's sort of their day off, although they still have to milk, of course).  Blah.

I hate when I make mistakes like that! Can I add that I think it's really neat you go and get raw milk!! Way to go!! :)

I think it's neat, too. Except today when there was no milk.  Reminded me of the time in college I got up early on Saturday morning, drove 45 minutes to campus, wondered why the parking lot was so empty, got to my classroom, sat there a while wondering where everyone else was - and then figured out there was no class that week.

I started making my own Greek yogurt and it came out very good only it was very thick.  I just asked my boyfriend if I could get some raw milk from his dairy so I can see how it would taste in the yogurt.  Should be interesting.  How does yours come out?

Mine comes out beautifully.  I strain the yogurt to get the desired thickness.  Once I forgot about it and left it in the strainer all day and ended up with cream cheese!  Which was good too, but not what I wanted to make.  But the yogurt is wonderful.  And very, very healthy.

I grew up on a dairy farm, Kelly. I hated it as a child, but looking back now, at age 54, I had the best life ever!!!!

What did you hate about it growing up?

Kelly, glad I'm not the only one who has "brain farts". I do things like that sometimes, just not often enough for my kids to consider dementia. ; )

I Spose all my friends were "city" folks. And I was just a country girl with all the farm chores to do and didn't get to do alot with my friends. That's why I say now that I'm grown, I realize now that I got to experience things alot of people never did

I'm sure the farm chores weren't much fun.  I doubt I'd enjoy most farm chores today.  I think gathering eggs or milking would be kind of fun, but not shoveling out cow manure and stuff.
