The Powah of Positive Thinkin'

Pre-ops: What if instead of beating yourself up about the amount of time you spend THINKING of cheating on your liquid diet, you concentrated on the fact that you are actually complying?

New post-ops: Instead of thinking about the length of your stall, what if you celebrated how much weight, how many inches you lost? Or how much more fit you are?

Veterans: How about if instead of dwelling on a bounce, you concentrate on how much of a loss you have MAINTAINED up to this point?

I’m not saying we shouldn’t show concern for things. But I often wonder what post-op life would look like if we flipped those scenarios. I know for me, even trying to concentrate on my losses instead of my bounce makes me want to PROTECT what I have worked so hard for. When I was focusing on the bounce, it led me to feeling sorry to myself and asking “what the hell am I doing this all for?"

Anyway, random thought. Have a great evening!

I try to keep this in mind. I am the person who gets aggravated with the weather man saying "partly cloudy" - why can't he say mostly sunny?

So why can't I say good things about me? Good thoughts - as always Nik!

Actually, I like to concentrate on all the things I can do now that I couldn't do before:
- sit in any chair
- fit in an airplane seat
- walk around the block or even a half marathon!
- wash dishes without my back hurting because I have to lean forward to reach the sink
- hike
- dance
- get up and down from the floor easily
- almost any activity where you have to move more than a little
- climb a waterfall
- bike ride
- and the list goes on and on and on

And I like to dwell on how healthy I am and how many meds I DON'T take now that I did before.

AMEN!

The other day I was on the treadmill and I did my 3 miles and I had to stop myself from yelling "Boo-YAH!!!"

I dare you to yell "Boo-YAH" next time!  Way to go getting your exercise in!  How's your challenge going this week?

 Um...craptastic...thanks for asking!

Seriously...with the move and stuff I have fallen off track. But not to worry! I'm going for the gusto to get at least four days this week (they won't all be at the gym but dammit I will get four days!) and then next week I'll get back on the horse.

...And yell Boo-YAH!

Good points. Sometimes I think we tend to be extremists in whatever we do, weight loss being no exception. We (okay, most of us) can lose a hundred pounds and turn around and berate ourselves for not losing more.

Reminds me of a nonsensical saying my grandmother had, "That person would complain if you hung 'em with a new rope".

Rosyfuture, my momma used to say that too!

Nik, this is such a good reminder to be on the side of gratitude rather than feeling sorry for ourselves. When I do this and relish my successes rather than my perceived failures, my outlook is completely changed.

Thanks for this reminder!
