Pre-surgical Confusion

I'm having my surgery next Wednesday and I don't see anyone (surgeon, nut, etc) before then.  It just occurred to me that I have no idea how to get in my protein when I will be in liquid mode for 2 weeks.  Am I supposed to worry about protein those 2 weeks?  I know I can have the protein shakes, but should I be getting protein powder to add to my liquids?  Also, is whey the only protein I should be purchasing?  And last but not least, are there any protein powders out there that are flavorless?  I'm vanilla and chocolated out!!

1) I wouldn't say you need to actively worry about anything the first to weeks, but getting in as much liquids, protein, rest, and walking as you can.

2) You can add protein to liquids, but most folks have difficulty getting throughout 1 or 2 protein shakes a day, so worry mostly about getting in enough fluids otherwise you'll have dehydration problems!

3) Get lots of samples, what works for you before surgery may not work after. Make sure that it's high protein, low or zero carb and sugar.

4) There are flavorless proteins out there,  but there are lots of other flavors other than Chocolate and Vanilla too. Cinnamon, Orange Cream, Grape, Cookies and Cream...etc...

Good Luck,

Every surgeon has their own guidelines, so hoepfully they will give you a crash course before the surgery.
Protein is important post-op, it helps with the healing process.
Just get in as much as you can, and try and increase it daily.
It's a progression, you may not get your daily protein requirements in right away, just try your best.
There are various types of protein, not just whey.
And yes, there are a lot of flavor varieties of proteins, including flavorless. But I suggest you don't go buying a ton pre-op. Your tastes may change, mine sure did! Couldn't stomach the powder I had!
I still can't stand the powder, so I buy the ready to drink ones.
My favorite right now is Pure Protein brand. I like the strawberry and bananas and cream. They don't really have the "protein" flavor. And they are 12 oz cans with 35 grams of protein, quick to drink.
The brand Unjury also has a chicken soup flavor, never had it, but I've heard people like it.
There also are more of a clear liquid type of protein, like Isopure. They look like gatorade, but I can't get past the flavor.
Everyone has their personal tastes, you just have to taste your way to the "perfect" protein.
Good luck to you!

You will get your protein from protein drinks.  Whey isolate is the best choice for most people because it's lactose free and absorbs really well.  Whey concentrate and soy isolate are also OK, though.

And yes, there is flavorless protein powder.
