so, my tool is still working

At 3.5 years post op, my tool is still working.

Last summer, I started taking some medication that is known to cause weight gain, and in about six months I gained 23 pounds.  I went from 122 to 145, and was not very happy about it.  That medication was discontinued around the end of last year, I forget when exactly.  Since then, I haven't tried really hard to lose any of the weight I'd gained.  I just stuck to my plan.

As of this morning, I am back down to 134.  I certainly have not been eating whatever I want, whenever I want, as much as I want, but I don't feel deprived or hungry either.  I eat six times a day, measure my food, make healthy food choices most of the time and allow myself treats occasionally.

The tool still works.

That's excellent. Thanks for sharing! As a pre-op newbie, it's great to hear the positives and not just the negatives from people!

Love to hear that!!!!
I worry so much about how I'm going to do after I hit my goal. Been there and bounced back to the fat me faster than the speed of lightning during my diet years.

Over and over again I've read vets that are successful do there best to avoid there old habits prior to WLS.
It should be illegal to give people that have previosly been obese medicine that makes us gain weight. So not funny!

Hope you feel well and as always wish you good health and lots of happiness!

Congrats Kelly!  Just curious, is it possible for someone not to be successful, even if they do follow all the rules?

Define successful.  It's possible for someone not to lose as much weight as they'd like, even if they follow all the rules.  However, I don't think it would be possible not to lose a significant amount of weight.

And what rules?  Different doctors recommend different diet plans after RNY.  There is no one-size-fits-all plan that works well for everyone, but some docs try to give all patients the same rules.  Obviously people will be more successful if they stick to the plan that works best for them, but it may take some trial and error to figure out just what that is.

You hit the nail on the head by what I define as successful.

Rules: Following your Doctors plan.

Thanks

Kelly, could you please share with me a typical menu for you for a whole day. I thought if i ate just three meals a day and got all my protein in that way it would be better, but i just find myself munching in between. I am 9 months post op and still have about 10-15 lbs left to lose and i am worried i will never get there. i also fear gaining all my weight back. Any advice would be great!!!!

I eat about one cup of food at a time.  I eat six times a day, usually.  I eat around 1500 calories and 90 grams of protein a day.

Sample menu

Breakfast - protein bar or shake

Lunch - big salad, or leftovers from dinner last night, or pita bread with hummus

Snack - fruit or Greek yogurt

Dinner - vegetarian chili, some sort of beans, veggie burger, etc.

Snack - Greek yogurt, roasted chickpeas, maybe left overs from dinner

Snack - protein bar or shake, or maybe some cheese
