My Chow, Khan (nicknamed Piggy), is a food fanatic and the only things I have found that he will NOT eat are bananas.  His favorite food? Pretzels!  I have owned Scotties that would beg for baby carrots, bananas, and even popcorn, but have never had another dog that would even EAT a pretzel let alone BEG for one!

I agree with all of the above about the papers.  My dog is papered.  Doesn't even mean anything.  Unless you breed them or show them or unless you are worried about how much money you can get from them, there is really no reason.

Something to think about in regards to the "selling life" thing.  A while back I was trying to rehome a dog I rescued, chocolate lab.  She was just too much with my other lab and 2 small dogs in my small house.  I contacted several shelters and rescues.  They all said they were unable to take any more dogs with the ecomony.  A couple of them told me to make sure I did not advertise her on craigslist or in the paper for free.  I should charge SOMETHING for her even if it was $25 or $50 dollar rehoming fee.  They said that there were people getting free dogs for alligator or shark bait.  She explained they would even bring children with them when getting the dog to convience people it was safe.  Sharks or alligators may not be in your area, but there may be other reasons someone might want a free dog for bad intentions.  This scared me so much, I decided just to keep her and not risk it.  Obviously just keeping all those puppies is not be an option, but giving them away may not be either unless you or your stepdad know them personally.  I gave mine away free to people I know.  Of course I kept one and only had 2 left so I wasn't that difficult.

Good luck!  I love puppies.  I bet your girls are beyond exciting and what a great name.  Hope all goes well.

Oh goodness...now I want to keep all the puppies!!! (Thankfully this is not my decision because they are not my puppies.)

We are excited about our newest addition. We've even already told the new landlord (we're moving in just over a week) about us getting a dog (had to pay a pet fee but oh well).

All but one of my dogs over the years have had papers (the first one was a mutt from the Animal Shelter), but that has been more a matter of availability and temperament than a desire for a papered dog.  Sometimes I have registered them with the AKC, but most times I have not.

My current Scottish Terrier was eligible but I did not submit the paperwork and pay the fee because I knew there was no chance I would breed him (his back legs are too long).  It would not have mattered to me if he had  papers or not (although I would have expected to pay much less if he had not).  My Chow is, however, registered  partly because I would NEVER buy a Chow whose parents were not AKC registered and did not come from a serious Chow breeder because they can be a very temperamental breed if bred indiscriminately and  OT properly socialized, and have gotten a bad "rep" for being mean because of too many backyard breeders in the1970s and 80s.

Also, let me take this opportunity to encourage people NOT to buy puppies from pet stores because most pet stores get their puppies from puppy mills that have deplorable, inhumane conditions.

I know these are cute puppies.    We've bought puppies and rescued too.  Our four legged family members are greatly loved.  Never been interested in registering as we don't show ours.  Just ask questions of the perspective new parents.  Like do you plan to keep the pet inside or out.  We personally like ours to be indoors.  When I see a pet that lives in a yard with little interaction it makes me sick.  Some even keep theirs in a kennel in the yard  or on a chain inside a fenced yard which is even worse.    One of the reasons people sell their litter is because they have paid all the initial vet costs and are recouping some of that money.   When active duty, we had to find home homes for two of ours and it was painful.  One went to a great home and one we weren't sure but hopeful because it was a grandfather and grandson.  We had a lot of money invested in the two purebreds but we gave them away to what we hoped were good homes.

Years ago there was a way to get limited registration super easy - a photo of the dogs from front, side and back. I looked around briefly on the AKC site and I don't see it. I can't remember what it was called.... IBA or something? I'll ask some of my friends.
I saw a rescue article of a dog taken from a free craigslist ad and it was freeze branded with a number then turned out on the street. Turns out it was a "game" where whoever killed the dog got that number in points.

I will need to see pictures of Nana and hear stories about Nana on a regular basis.
