I'm back in business!!!
Did that...just re-downloaded my software (got a new work computer since last I used it), set up my weight goals (I set a goal of 1.5 lbs per week to reach my goal of 170 in November...Lord help me). So I am ready to go!
Bring it on world! I'm ready for ya!

I’ve been meaning to do a comparison of different calorie trackers on BF. Perhaps you and others can help. I basically need to know what YOU would want to know about such a device if you were considering buying one. It’s been so long I’ve had this that I genuinely don’t know what criteria to collect from folks with other devices.
I can say for the BMF it’s a great tool in that of course I can see my running caloric burn (because I have the display device) which spurs me on to do more and more throughout the day. It also allows you to set goals for moderate (walking, etc.) and vigorous (jogging, aerobics, etc.) activity and it alerts you when you’ve met your goal.
It also lets you set goals for losing a certain amount of weight and tells you the caloric deficit you need to achieve that. It bases the deficit on what you actually eat not how much it thinks you should. So, for instance, I told it that I eat 1,500 calories a day. It basically told me that if I want to lose 1.5 lbs. a week I need a 1,000 calorie a day deficit. So basically it takes the stance that you can adjust both your caloric intake and burn to achieve weight loss, it’s not just about eating less, but moving MORE.
Besides that I also like that it measures my sleep efficiency (provided I wear the device while I am sleeping) and it also gives me a good historical knowledge of what my body is doing. It also clears up the mystery around gym machines. From this device I’ve learned that the readings I get on treadmills and regular (not recumbent) bikes are dead on (only about a 2-3 calorie differential). The elliptical is always WAY off! Even though this device is not good at measuring the kind of movement on an elliptical (it has tools online to help you adjust your burn) I typically burn about 50% of what the machine tells me I burn (that’s based off my heart rate during activity.
So even as you can see with this post, knowledge is power! You (read: I) can get a bit obsessed with the data but I am going to try to channel that obsession for good. J

Right now i'm not 100% sure what I am looking for. I just know I want something that will store a ton of data for me so I can have a better idea of what I am doing. For example, next year I am looking to participate in 5ks.
your machine sounds like it does awesome stuff.

Quintessential datagirl here, so of course I use my device, although not yet obsessively (yeah, who am I kidding!). If you were to do a review, I think the thing that I really looked at were scientific white papers on how accurate the devices were. All have some variance, but I think BodyFit's marketing machine uses some great informational studies.
I also look at how easy to use, how easy to interpret, and the User Interface. Body Media's rocks! Of course, I've never used any others but, I like Body Media's user interface. Ease of wear, ease of use, data reported, accuracy, sexiness (can that be a category?) of the device, and how well it satisfies the gadget fiend in me...all factors in how to shop for a fitness tool/device.
Anecdotally, their customer service is the bomb too! Super responsive and very nice...all good things to review too.

The BMF does not simply use heartrate to calculate your burn. It also measures how you move (thrust, I think they call it), your body temperature, the rate at which you breathe and a bunch of other factors to come up with their number. Studies have shown it something like 99% accurate. That's one reason I went with this device over others. I didn't need to be paying for junk info!
