I just had my 6mo draw and I think they drew 12 vials. The tech told me they have to be light protected during the "process" but not necessarily during transport.....she still protected mine...but I don't know if she was right.....hhhmmmmm........

If anyone is interested, I noticed my b1 was also to be a frozen sample, they put it inside another tube insulated with dry ice. Never seen that done before getting my new lab slip from the nut. Covers many more tests than the surgeon draws.

I also use LabCorp, like poster above, and I am grateful.  I had a few extra things this time, and they took 18 vials.  They seem to be used to gastric bypass people, because they always make a comment after I check in..."one of these again!".  They are really effecient and seem to know what to do with each tube...the phlebotomist was even chatting with me about which ones needed what special treatment.  Computer-generated labels make this a lot easier than it used to be when they had to hand write everything!
